I know it is not dyslexia, but is there a way I can help him with this. It is very frustrating for him and me.

  1. Have him tested by a Speech Pathologist for a learning disability. He may have a processing disorder.

  2. If it's not dyslexia could he have a learning disability?

Umm for me, I would talk to the teacher, have his teacher maybe give him a copy of the notes he use. The notes could be used to make sure that what he writes down is correct, a tool, not a way to not take notes at all.

It might seem silly but tape record his classes, so he is able to go back through them at home and double check.

But I'd definately have a sit down with his teacher, the three of you and come up with ways to help out with his problem.

  3. As a teacher, I would suggest you take him to an eye doctor and have him tested for a visual tracking problem.  You can also try placing colored overlays on book pages; some people find that the letters stop "moving around".  You can buy them from this site http://www.dyslexiacure.com/

I know it's a dyslexia site, but they work with some visual tracking issues too.

Also, try writing on yellow paper (the lined kind in a tablet).  For some reason, white paper makes reading/writing difficult for some people.

  4. sitting down with the teacher is a great idea, they may be able to come up with suggestions or they may have noticed the same thing. Your son could be tested to see if he has a learning disability and get assistance for schooling before schooling seems too hard and he does not want to go. There is adaptive technology software that can assist with this issue, but meeting with the teacher is a good starting point.
