My 11 year old step-son wets the bed nightly....?

I recently married (6-21-08) a man who has 2 sons (11 & 13). I have 2 sons (9 & 12). His 11 year old wets the bed every night. He wears "underjams" to bed and wets them nightly. My husband has taken him to a urologist and says his bladder is not grown. I feel the boy has other issues with insecurity and I want to help him.

He has ADHD and wants to sleep with the hall light on. I want to figure out what is going on and how to help without causing embarassment but I think my hubby is in denial about issues going on.

As I stated, I have my own sons and we don't have these issues.

All 4 boys get along well and have not had to have much disruption in their lives, same school, bigger house.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

THANKS!!

  1. it's usually a genetic thing.  My 9 yr old son and 7 yr old daughter both do it too and I have talked with their dr about it and he said that their bladder just hasn't matured. Usually ends by the time puberty sets in, but not all the time.  I am also in school for the medical field and was taught the same thing.    Plus alittle personal experience here as well. (but not my children-hint hint)  Anyway, it is usually out grown once the bladder fully matures.

  2. sometimes bed wetting is a sign of something much more serious, malestation. i'm not saying it might not be something as simple as a bladder issue, but even a small bladder will wake a kid up when its time to go. i think if it is an esteem issue you should get a  counsilor or someone to check into it.
