My 11 year old was at a sleep over last night, and I don't know how, but they 3 girls there were playing a game, and somehow one of them accidentally knocked some coke or pepsi into my little girl's ear. When I picked her up this morning, she told me went and put some water into her ear, and then tilted her head to let it drain out last night, but she told me it still felt sticky and she couldn't hear out of it properly. I heated up a bit of olive oil and put it on a cue tip, and carefully cleaned the ear itself, being very careful not to go in. She still says she can't hear properly out of it. What should I do? Is this permanent?

Thanks

  1. Kids, it's always something with them isn't it?

I would think a doctors visit wouldn't hurt, like the other posters said, for your piece of mind, they might be able to do an ear wash and get the gunk out.

Good luck and hope she feels better soon!

  2. do what everyone else is saying... i didnt read all of the answers though...

  3. there are two methods of home remedy, you can use:

    1. Instead of putting the sweet oil (olive oil) on a q-tip, use an eye dropper, and place 2 to 3 drops in the ear and then place a cotton ball in the ear for about 20 minutes. This will soften up the waxes.

    2. Use hydrogen peroxide (brown bottle) and have her lay so the affected ear is skyward. Pour just enough in the ear to fill the canal. Allow this to sit for about 5 minutes or until all bubbling has stopped.

If you still have problems, consult your doctor.

  4. You need to take her to the doctor!  I wouldn't wait and see when it comes to her ear; it could become permanent if not taken care of.

  5. hey miss what means accidentally to you?,, the airplanees that crashed on the twin towers was an accident?? ,, all the bad things dont hapen uintentionally, you were obligated to di that?? you had to say  INCIDENT

  6. I'd go see a Local Physician maybe they'll know more about the situation.

  7. We have this modern convenience in the Western world called an Urgent Care Center, believe it or not, where actual doctors and nurses are available 24/7 to deal with issues like this.  I'll bet if you look in the phone book there might even be one near you.

  8. Take her to a doctor?  What did you do when she stuck a peanut in her nose?  Blow through the empty nostril?

  9. take her to the doctor

  10. Bring her to the doctor.

Oh and I don't see how it 'accidentally' went into her ear someone must have put it in there.

  14. call her doctor and make an appointment immediately. This can lead to serious problems.

  15. There is an over the counter product called "Aruo Dri" Check with your pharmacist.  You also may need to take her to the doctor.

  16. i agree with nurse JC, see a doctor.

  17. I don't think so. she could have gotten some coke in the ear canal. I should dry out soon. until then I would just fill a tub up with warm water and let her submerge her head under water for a sec and then tilt her head to let the water out. this should cleanse her ears out. If its not ok in a couple days just let a dr look into her ear. I know it isnt permanent.

  18. doctors, my brother broke his eardrums once he put a chop stick in his ear then my other brother slammed it in ewwww but i am sure a doctor can help

  19. take her to the doctor i hope she'll be fine its probably nothing.

  20. Ha! I have an eleven year old girl as well, and the sleepovers are always at my house, and boy do they come up with games!!

If I were you, I'd have her soak in a nice warm bath, laying her head under the water for five or more minutes. If the water is warm enough, it should get the stick out. She may have poked it herself too hard, and that can in fact cause temporary hearing loss. Don't use a q-tip anymore either, as this can push wax, or the sticky syrup further into the canal.

After the warm bath, allow the ear to properly drain. I might even try this two nights in a row. After about four or so days, if it hasn't returned to normal, then I would go to the doctor.

  21. call a dr!

  22. i would go to the hospital :d

  23. if she does not feel any better go to the doctors

  24. go to a doctor

  25. i wouldn't think it's permanent..but ER visit probably would be in order..at least you'd know for your own piece of mind, and her health!
