Ive tried to explain it to her, but she keeps asking - and a stupid school teacher said that she can get it from a school chair if first a boy then a girl wriggles around on it! Does anyone know of any kid friendly sites that explain this sort of thing?

  1. Try Kidscape they are based in London and do all sorts of things to explain things to kids.

  2. I would firstly talk to the headmaster to get this teacher put straight. She sounds stupid!

Perhaps if you research it and then explain it to your kid in your own words, they would understand it better than a website.

  3. wow thats amazingly bad of that teacher I agree with other posters - I think you ought to tell the head teacher!!

    Go to www.kidshealth.org/kid/health_problems

    /infection/hiv.html

    Good luck!!

  4. I don't know of any - but when you find one, please send a copy to your child's teacher!!

  5. brain pop- is a great educational site covers all topics from health to math and is very kid friendly

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=bra...

  6. I think your teacher doesnt want your child with such knowledge, due at the age s/he is at, and had decided to say that- the same tactic as storks bring babies, thunder is the rolling of elephants..  to cover up for what may believe is for more suitable ears,(i.e when of a more suitable age) or may also be leaving that upto you to explain.

s*x education these days alone is argued at being given too young, and leads to youngsters getting pregnant earlier- this is HIV you are thinking of seriously trying to explain, what would mean explaining about the birds and bees to your child, and a lot of other concepts, to a young, fragile mind who's idea of a dangerous time is probably falling over in the sandpit, rather than drugs/booze/crime etc.

You can either follow your teachers tactics and carry on with a likewise near explanation until s/he is of age to know abotu the risks i.e when of age on consent and s*x education given in school. Or otherwise , try explaining in lessened down terms, without harsh words that are just going to create even more questions.

  7. The most kid-friendly site is called www.mum.YOU. Find an adult friendly site and make sure you understand the facts and issues clearly for yourself.

Explaining life to kids is the job of a parent, not a teacher or a computer. The bond that exists between mother and daughter makes learning and empathy with others more "real"

Sit her down, and tell her what you've learned, sensitively, then answer any questions she has as honestly as possible. If you don't know, tell her. She'll respect the fact the "ordinary" people don't know everything about this complex and difficult condition.

At 11 years old she deserves the warmth that only a mother can bring to issues like this.

  8. Sorry I cant help with answering but am gobsmacked at what the teacher said to your child!!  I would go to the school and mention this to the head that is just complete ignorance, said in joke or not it is so wrong!!

  9. I have found a site that explains how to discuss this with your child. It lists all the facts. I would also consider sending it to her teacher and report her.

    http://www.thewellproject.org/en_US/Wome...

  10. Are you positive a school teacher said that?  Being a teacher myself, I know that I would never say something like that to a child.  HIV is all over the place, but if you are having trouble explaining it to her, maybe it is not the best show for her to watch.

  11. I think you should report this stupid teacher first, Christ, this person has our kids education in their hands!

  12. I don't know any,but the school's SENCO will have some information. Is  she year 6 or year 7? Either way this will be covered this year in PSHCE. Hopefully by someone with half a brain.

I should check with the teacher what was actually said - and then make a loud complaint to the Head! He/ she may well have been joking ("Ask a daft question ...") but it was a totally inappropriate in answer to a question from that age-group.

  13. Please report that teacher to the principal ASAP...we don't need that kind of c**p going around.

I don't know of any sites, but I'm sure they are out there.  I don't know that show, but are you sure it is acceptable for an 11 year old?

  14. www.kidshealth.com  has a good explanation for children.

  15. The teacher was wrong and this should be reported to the school.so that staff can be given training .

you can get help and advice from the school nurse and they will be able to advise you and books and leaflets on this subject .also early learning centre have books to deal with difficult topics,

  16. I can't answer your question about web site for kids, but you could just explain it to her  again.  She's obviously getting mixed messages.  I think I'd report that teacher too.
