Okay so I have 2 lil ones and my oldest pushed my 13month old and he hit his head on the wall. He didn't cry, just laughed and hit his brother back. I didn't think anything of it because he didn't cry or appear dazed in any way, but then I went to give him a bath and he has a hard bump on the very back of his head approx. 1/2in long and 1/8 of an inch wide. It's black and blue but doesn't cause pain when I touch it (it's kind of like those old cartoons where an anvil gets dropped on your head an the lump grows like immediatly). I called the ped and he said "Boys are tough and they play tough don't worry" but that seems like a big lump to me so what do I do? He's running around like a nut right now dancing so he seems fine, but still I am uber protective and some army peds just don't feel like seeing people on things they dub common. Ever happen to you kid? What did you do? How long did it last? thanks ya'll

  1. I am not a doctor and like all tell all mothers; follow your instincts. Personally, I don't think I would take him to the doctors but that's just me. I have always been told it's not the bumps you should worry about. It's when it indents is when you should be scared. I would just keep a close eye on his behavour and periodically ask him questions. If at any time he seems confussed then I would considere taking him to his pediatrician. Also, keep him awake for a few hrs. Good luck!

  2. been there done that !!! I wouldnt take him to the doctors either but observing him is a great idea.  Drousiness and confusion are both signs of concussions, not to mention vomitting.  Either way I am sure from the details you gave that he should be fine.  Those bumps do look nasty dont they?  Alot of blood flow into that area does that.  Im sure by now you can see that its down and theres nothing to worry about.

    Good luck

  3. My 14 month old hit his head on the edge of a rocking chair last month.  He did cry a little, but he was fine a minute later.  I just kept a good eye on him.  I was ready with the tylenol if he seemed to be in pain and I put ice on it for as long as he would stay still (like 2 minutes).  The next day the bump had gone down, but was a little discolored.  Then a couple days later there was no sign of it.  You need to keep in mind that kids at this age bump their heads a lot because they have just learned how to walk and they are top heavy still.

  4. just watch the bump... dont let him go right off to sleep untill you see if its major or not... watch for it to go to the inside

  5. Take your pediatrician's advice for now, because it sounds like your boy's doing fine. Keep an eye on him though. If he gets lethargic, has trouble staying awake, or has differently sized pupils, then he could have a concussion and would need to see the doctor immediately. I don't think you have any cause for concern though. Children are extremely resilient.
