I have a 13 month old who doesnt want to eat table food, she does show interest in what im eating and begins to whine so I can let her try what Im eating but once she tries it she will let roll around in her mouth and then eventually just spit it all out, and if I attempt to give it to her again she just turns her face. Right now she is only having her whole milk with baby cereal and eats the gerber dinners. She isnt on a sippy cup yet, she has never really cared to hold the bottle on her own, all she does is play with it cause it seems she is much more interested in playing with my face or my hair rather than holding her own bottle, so when I give her water or juice in the sippy cup I have to hold it aswell.

My daughter didn't give me any fuss with the different  foods i gave her. But I've been reading and most moms say just give your little one the time and keep on with it and they will (on their own time) eat the foods you want them to.   best of luck, hope this site helps a little

  3. The diet issue seems ok, some aren't ready for table food . Our youngest hated, absolutely hated, veggies except for peas when served; but loved the fruits, especially Gerber fruits. I would say maybe she's favoring the sweets a little.

As for holding the bottle , that's something that should be happening and I would contact the pediatrician or pediatrician's nurse about it. It's worrisome that she's not using her dexterity that way.

  4. break her from the bottle and the gerber food stuff.  If you take that bottle away she will get an appetite. Make her her own special dishes. she may not prefer the seasonings that you put on your food. If she can't hold her own sippy cup then she isn't that thirsty.  Is this your first child?  Sometimes it seems a little hard or harsh to take away the things that make them comfortable. Put what ever she is drinking into a sippy cup and make it accessible to her. if she gets thirsty enough she will get it for herself. give her a little bowl of dry cereal(cheerios) and crackers, and other finger type foods that she can pick up and try herself.  Right now she has you wrapped around her little finger.  She gets hungry enough she will try something other than the baby food and she will like it.  Don't get too worried if she doesn't eat much at first, it is all about introducing new and different things to her.  she will get an appetite and she will learn to eat regular food and like it...Kids go through various stages and sometimes, all my 8 year old wants to eat is hot dogs and ice cream....or a certain type of macaroni and cheese, plain bread with no butter, or plain mashed potatoes with no butter or gravy.  (you get the idea) I let her eat it the way she wants to and she is happy I am happy because she is eating and she knows what she likes or doesn't like, that day.  I never fed her baby food until she was 13 months old though.  if she could pick it up and put it in her mouth and chew it without choking she ate what we ate when she was 8 or nine months old, with no teeth in her head. Good luck

  5. I've got a 15 month old son who has recently started eating whatever we eat.  Do you give your's finger foods?  I'm sure that's what helped my boy.  I gave him things like chunks of cheese, fruit, cheese puffs, pieces of ham, pieces of cucumber etc while he was waiting for his meal to get him used to chewing.  He was able to cope with finger foods long before he ate lumpy meals, I think he enjoyed being able to play with it and feed himself as he's very independent

Also, he only started eating pieces of meat after he got his first molars.  Does your little one have many teeth yet?  If not, she may be having trouble chewing the food.  Have you thought of pureeing the food you eat rather than gerber foods?  It will at least gt her used to the flavours of food that you eat.

I agree with Jen s, you may have keep trying and might need  to offer her the foods quite a few times before she will try it, my health visitor said up to 10 times!!!  They are quite suspicious of new things at that age, so you can't really tell if they don't like something.  Mind you, mine always coped well with biscuits/ cake first time!!!!

As for the cup, do you have one with handles?  Perhaps you could try leaving the cup on the high chair tray?   If she is thirsty she will probably pick it up and have a go.

Most importantly, don't worry.  She will do these things eventually, some take longer than others.  My mum always reassures me by saying how many 18 year olds do you see with a bottle/ eating pureed food!  she'll get there.
