  1. my son hated highchairs too, but loved his stroller. we would just wheel him up to the table and feed him in there.

  2. both my younger kids did this. i cant wait to see what some people have to say.

some are going to be rude im sure.

but when you have a high strun child at times it can be hard. we refrain from eating out for now till the kids are older and more diner friendly

  3. I always entertain my daughter the best I can. Unfortunately, going out to eat doesn't always provide the break you long for!

I have a little tool box with special toys that I keep in the car, just for restaurants. Crayons, a toy cell phone, picture flash cards and board books. You can pick up great stuff at the dollar store.

There are also place mats with gadgets and stuff right on them. My daughter likes this one with a container on the corner, she puts little bits of food in, then takes them out, then in again...

You can also get a padded cover- it's more comfortable and more hygienic!

And, of course, don't push your luck. 30 minutes is about all you get, so become a regular, know the menu, order fast and then get out! Ha ha.

  4. We let our son sit with us at the table or in our lap, he doesn't even like his highchair at home.

  5. My daughter was exactly like that at that age...she is almost 2 now and just starting to getting better in restaurants.  My strategy is to plan ahead.  Bring plenty of little toys, crayons, books, etc. to entertain them...try buying ones that you keep just for going out so that they are not the same toys they play with every day.  Bring food with you!  I always bring a few little things to nibble on whilst we wait...rice chips, arrow root cookies, and if I'm really on my game something like grapes...just small things your little one can munch on.  When she gets really restless I start pulling out non-toy items for her to play with...my car keys, cell phone, the sugar packets on the table, etc.,  Finally, sometimes you just have to give in and let them out of their highchair and let them sit with you...works best if you are in a booth.  In time they get better...there is just so much going on in a restaurant I think they find it hard to concentrate on eating and certainly find it all too stimulating to just sit patiently! lol
