Her gums are swollen and she refuses to eat for the past 3 days. Could the fever and loss of appetite be because she is teething. I am taking her to see a pediatrician tomorrow, Monday but I need to know so I have a little rest of mind.

  1. doctor

  2. Sounds like teething to me. It is ok to give her some Tylenol to help with the pain. The fever if it does get much higher is probably more due to a virus, but she can still be teething during that time. Orajel and teethign tablets are quick fix. Ice in a washcloth or wet a washcloth and freeze it. Anything cold feels good on their gums. Teething is miserable. My Daughter was a hard teether and Tylenol was my lifesaver. It is safe. I don't believe in using Motrin if you can get away with it because it is very hard on the kidneys.

Have you tried cold cheerios and cold foods- cooler formula.

  3. I've heard that loss of appetite can be a result of teething, but a fever means she has some sort of infection her body is trying to fight off. It's good that you're going to see a doctor, though. Feed her anything you can, especially fluids, and Vitamin C. Good luck! I hope she feels better, poor thing!

  4. GO TO THE ER

  5. My 14 month old just got over having a fever too. She had one for about 3 days, around 100.7-102.5. When I took her to the DR they said that it could just be a summer virus or Rosella, and that there was not much they could because to them that is not a high fever. Just give her fluids and try to get her to eat.

She was also teething, she is getting 4 molers and 4 more teeth, so I do think that teething can cause the fever and loss of appetite. Fever is the bodies way to fight infection and it also happens when your in pain.

I would try to give her liquids, freeze pops, cold wash rags to chew on. Maybe some soup or cereal and milk, applesause...soft stuff so it doesnt hurt her gums.

Give her some motrin or baby tylelon. A warm(on the colder side) bath. And lots of love.

For your peace of mind you could call a nurse hot line and see what they say, but i think she will be fine. And you can wait until tomorrow to take her to her DR, instead of sitting for hrs in a dirty and germy ER.

    Good luck

    Hope she feels better soon.

PS I think that when babies are sickit is worse on the parents than the baby.LOL

  6. It sounds like teething - my son had a fever for 4 of his teeth when they were coming in. If you take him to the hospital, they will not do anything for him because the fever isn't reaching the 103.5-106 mark - it's a low grade fever which means the body's fighting something but things haven't gotten too out of control for it to handle. My advice would be to keep an eye on it, offer some ice pops or cold teething rings, and push cold fluids - ie. giving her ice water instead of room temp. water may help to numb her mouth a little and help her tolerate some food. As far as the fever, try some Children's Motrin - that should reduce the fever if it gets higher than low grade. Good luck!

  7. It is very normal for small children to run fevers.  I very rarely take my kids temps, I just go on how they acting!
