  1. He might not like the texture anymore.  He might be ready to move on to foods that have a little more texture to them, but are still soft.

Have you thought about small chopped up pieces of "real" fruit - apples, peaches, oranges.  Maybe cooked tomatoes or cucumbers...pickle chips...corn or flour tortillas...cooked pasta.  These are all very nutritious, and yet still soft without tasting like paste.

  2. Toddlers all go through funny eating phases. Don't worry, he'll eat other things again soon. His body will tell him what he needs. My 2 yr old just went through a phase of wanting nothing but grape juice and peanut butter. thats just about all she had for about a week. then she got over it. that was about the fifth weird food phase for her and I expect another one any time now.

It's aggravating, i know, but do not try to force him to eat something he doesn't want, because that'll cause bad eating habits later on.

It will pass, i promise you. and for the meantime, just keep offering fruits, veggies, or other healthful foods. just offer, let him say yes or no, and leave it at that. someday soon he'll say yes.

  3. Hello, I have 2 beautiful little children on my own, so i completely undrstand your problem. If I were u, i'll never give my baby toast and crackers again, cause in my experience, if our baby get hungry then they'll eat everything we give them. My little daughter also wont eat or drink anything for almost 3 weeks, she only wanted for breastmilk. but after about 3 weeks, she's willing to take anything i gave her. So good luck....!

  4. Kids know what they do and do not like.  My son has always been picky in his choices.  The worst part is that kids NEED veggies, meat, fruits, breads, etc. to grow happy and healthy bones, etc.  Hes old enough now to start him on "people" food.  Just cut it up small so he doesnt choke on it - give him REAL mashed potatoes, cut up meat loaf, spaghetti noodles, pizza to chew on.  Give him juice (apple/grape/apricot - no citrus), jello, cereal., milkshakes...lots of stuff.  He obviously doesnt like the jarred baby food.  Poor thing IS hungry.  Check with your pediatrician if he continues cuz too much milk is not good for him either.  Hope that helps!

  5. Try feeding him lots of different stuff, like pasta (cut it up real small and let him feed himself sometimes), you can try cut up fruit like strawberries, mangos, bananas. Cereal, like rice krispies, cheese in small pieces, mashed potatoes....i'll come back when i think of more =)

Oh yeah, yogurt and apple sauce, small pieces of meat, eggs are great! basically everything you eat he can eat, just cut it up small

  6. It might be that he doesn't like the texture of mushy food anymore. Try some solids like chicken, uncooked veggies, outmeal, rice, mac n cheese. My son is 12 months and he is eating all of the above and more. At one point he would eat pudding and yogurt but now if it's mushy he spits it out having a preference for texture.

You might find this site helpful as you're a first time mom. It's from the author of the what to expect series of books for new parents. The books are helpful, I can only imagine the website is helpful as well. The second link is to toddler eating basics, (the third page talks about food rejection).

  7. Maybe you could first start of by dipping the cracker in baby food and then giving it it too him and once he gets used to that you can try crushing the crackers and putting it in the baby food to see if he'll eat it and then slowly ween him of the cracker.  It's worth a try.

  8. You should breast feed him, he will get all the nutrition he needs, and it's healthier, as your body with produce antibodies to fight off any infection or viruses that he make encounter.  Another thing that my sister does, is feed your son what you are eating, just "babysize it" for him.

  9. well for starters u can take him to the doctors..

also u can put that babies cereal stuff [idk if u know what i'm talking about cuz i forgot what it's called]

    in his milk...

that will help give him a boost of food...

and it blends in well so he might not notice it...

also try more foods with him.

  10. Quit giving him crackers...out of sight out of mind.  He will learn that his only options are the healthy options!

  11. Richard R, you can't suddenly just start breastfeeding a child if you haven't been already, d'oh!

Do you try to get him to eat off of your plate? Most children like that and he's more likely to eat what he sees you eating. Another trick is to feed him milk from a spoon and gradually give yoghurt or something else slightly runny and gradually give foods of a thicker consistancy. You shouldn't ever give anything in a bottle apart from milk or water.

Crackers and milk aren't enough to sustain a child of 14 months.
