My 14 month stopped drinking milk for the last 3 weeks as I tried to transition him from bottle to cup?

He was drinking 3 bottles of whole milk a day at 12 months (that's what my doctor recommended). He has been drinking water from a Sippy Cup & Straw Cup. I haven't given him juice. He also likes Milk Shake (milk with fruit blended in) from a Staw Cup. So he knows how to drink from a Cup.

I have tried all kinds of cups for the Milk for the last 3 weeks - Nuby with soft spout, straw cup, sippy cups but he takes 1 sip and pushes the cup away. I gave him a bottle at night for the first 2 weeks but he stopped drinking milk during the day. Then I stopped giving him the bottle at night in the 3rd week thinking that he may not be drinking in the day because he thinks he can get the bottle. I;ve been trying for the 3rd week but he just won't drink the milk. I add some fruit and give it to him but he only has that once a day at the most. I don't know if I should flavor it but don't want him to get used to sweet milk only.

He used to love his plain whole milk just 2-3 weeks ago. Isn't it better to have plain milk with a bottle twice a day than have to sweeten the milk everytime to get him to drink from a cup? Will he not drink plain milk again? Help !

  1. I had this problem with my niece and the way we stopped her from always needing the bottle was that we put some lemon juice in her milk in the bottle and not in the milk in her sippy cup, she soon began to realize that the milk in the bottle was not to her liking and the sippy cup was this only took 3 days and she stopped with the bottle all together.
