Question:

My 14-year old daughter and her friends have started a band. Should I be concerned about their name?

My only daughter, 14, has started a pop band with her friends. They'll be playing at a school function later this year, as well as at friend's birthday parties, etc. They're a standard pop band, cut from the same cloth as the same music Miley Cyrus records.

Last night, she revealed the band's name to me : "Hard Tacos With DooDoo as the Meat". At first, I stifled back laughter, but she says that they took a band vote, and THAT'S the name they chose.

I'm really torn between letting her express herself, and letting her embarrass herself and our family. REALLY torn. Help?

  1. Okay as long as she's doing great in school then I don't think you should be concern.

  2. I think they'd get more street cred if they threw in an Iron Maiden cover or two.

But otherwise, big thumbs up on the band name!

  3. Let her have it.  Maybe it will get changed once they reveal the name to the public.  Otherwise, people may remember them for the original name.  Or they may call them the "DooDoo band". "Hard DooDoo band".  Did you see that "meat band" last night? Man, I can think of so many!

  4. Well, I'm laughing....

    a lot.

  5. Well the school is going to let her play there under that name???????

Ummm thats a very ugly name and yyour right to be turned off by it, as will other ppl, just explain that to her.......it's ok yto color outside the lines and be unique..........but know when enough is enough, it has to balance.

    Try suggesting names to them:

you could suggest PINK TACOS.........but I think I may have heard a female part called that???

    What about just Hard Tacos

    Glitter

    Glistening Glitter

    Glam

    Glamour Dolls

    Pink Poodles

Well apparently I suck at this so I'm going to stop now, lol...................but you get the idea!!!!

  6. If the kid thinks it's funny, let them use it. They'll learn that it's a chat name eventually.

  7. I would explain the consequences of the name (ie: she will never make it big with that name). Then let her make her own decision.  Also, remember most big stars started out with a first band then moved on.

  8. ok

  9. *lol*  Sounds like somebody still hasn't outgrown potty humor yet.  Don't worry, the other kids in school will let her know what they think of the band name.  ;)  I'm sure it will go through revisions after that.

  10. who's going to hire them with a name like that. Tell them to be a bit more creative and think of a name that says something about who they are. When i hear the name 'Hard tacos with doodoo", i think of old dirty va-j -j's. Gross!!!  But come on maybe they are just pulling you chain. Hopefully they are just trying to get a reaction from you.Hope i helped. GOOD LUCK!!!

  11. This too shall pass. Some kids are interested in "shock value". It sounds like the band took a vote and agreed that they had come up with the worst name they could think of. If it doesn't shock or impress anyone, they will likely become bored with it themselves and change it. If it were me, I would tell them that it's their band, they can call it what they like. Then later when they asked for a critique of the music I would say something like, "I'm sorry, I haven't really paid attention to any of your music. When I listen to you all I can think about is a taco with doo doo in it." (and make a face like it's the most disgusting thing you've ever thought of) Along the same lines, if she likes tacos, turn up your nose whenever she wants to go out for Mexican food or wants you to cook tacos. Say that the band makes you never want to eat tacos again. Don't worry about having to never eat tacos again, they will change their name or break up before you go completely crazy. From my own experience, don't try to explain that other people won't like it and they won't get gigs with that name. Let them find that out for themselves. It won't take long.

  12. Some functions may not except that. Tell her that it may scare off clients if she wants to do well. It sounds gross and other may think the same thing. tell her she needs a catchy fun name for the group that will entice a young crowd that also parents will except. After all... if parents want them to play at their teenagers party, they would go for a descent name of the group to assure the group isn't freaks or something.

  13. Hahaha tell me you are joking? I mean does that name even have a meaning? regardless dont worry about it-the bad probably wont last long and even if by a one in a million chance they do make it big im certain the record company would tell them to change it.

  14. I think it's cute. At 14, she should know what her peers will humiliate her about, and not. I think that you should just leave it alone.

  15. I like the name, and laughter is actually good for people's health, so why do you want to get rid of it, did you know that just by you asking that question you made me laugh. And think of all the diseases that could be prevented by laughter. You should let her keep the name.

And besides we always like to make funny names for our teams, our debate team in school was called "the mulch" the stuff that is made of grinded plant fibers

  16. oh I would let her use that name. that is just what they are doing, expressing themselves and having fun with it! I wouldn't be concerned. as long as it wasn't drug/s*x related, then it's not a big deal.

  17. Don't worry, they'll get a few laughs from it, and if they go anywhere, they'll change it, it's just too d**n long!

  18. You may want to tell her that the name may not be acceptable to play at a school function, other than that, it's really harmless and kids that age always embarass themselves, so this is not a biggy

  19. I don't think they will get jobs at schools with that name. I also think that it is pretty gross and totally inappropriate. I also think that you are a troll.
