  1. Maybe he is fallling asleep and he notices so he opens huis eyes backup. Take him to a doctor and watch his behavior

  2. I would pay attention to what he is doing when this happens. Before, during, and after. Can he stand and still do it? Does he stop what he's doing and drop things? Does his mood change? Can he hear and respond do you while he's doing it? It might be some kind of odd habit, but I would mention it to your doctor. It may be some kind of seizure that could be caused by a million different reasons and that can easily be treated.

  3. My son did this about that age too...my daughter had never done it.  But only for a few seconds, not like 30 or a minute or anything..It has since ceased and I believe it to be nothing more than a boy discovering what his body parts do.

  4. Mine started doing this after receiving her pertussis vaccine.  Do his arms or legs twitch? My little one started having seizures and her eyes would roll back and her arms would jerk and twitch.  It was really scary, but she would "wake up" a few seconds later.

I hope that is not what is happening with your son, but it's a possibility.

  5. I'm epileptic and it doesnt sound like a petite mal but it can be something called an absence seizure. My guess is that it lasts for about 30 sec's to a min? He doesnt move and you can describe it as "zoned out?" If he does end up being epileptic, dont worry too much about it. A lot of kids have epilepsy and they grow out of it by the age of 5 or 6. After that age, is when the medication usually starts unless you have uncontrollable grand mal's of course then the medicine starts earlier! I have Absence every now and then and they suck but they dont effect me too much, an actual seizure knocks me on my but for a couple of days! And just so you know, they dont hurt!

Dont rush and start him on medication, the medicine is really really crappy and has A LOT of side effects.  Talk to your DR, get an appointment for a neuroligist and then go to them. They might want him to do a test when he gets older, I'm not sure if they have one for little kids but the one I am thinking of is called an EEG, they make you look into a machine and flash a bunch of lights at you and wait for a seizure. It might be too hard to make a 15 month old stay awake for the required amount of time and then sit still to look into the machine.

Good luck, if you ever have any questions e-mail me

  6. Sounds like a petit mal seizure.  Take him to a doctor.

  7. Petite mal and absence seizure are the same thing. http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml...

Next time this happens, try to video tape it and bring it into the doctor. This type of seizure almost always starts in early childhood (3 and 12). Take him to the doctor anyway. If these are seizures, you want to get them treated and under control. If he continues to have these in school, they can interfere with learning. If they are seizures and if the doctor suggests medication, don't hesitate. But don't allow for to high a dose. Depakote is not recommended for children under 2.But is often used for absence seizures and comes in sprinkle tablets that make it easy to take.  So is Zonegram and Zarontin.

Other than that, it could be blood sugar, gluten allergy or metabolic disturbances.
