  1. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT get an SUV...

if u get an suv uwill not b able 2 maintain gas...in this market??? h**l no. unless ur donald trump or sumthin idont think so...nd wen i ws 15 i wanted 2 drive ALOT so i think u should go w. the convertible....i would go w. an acura, at least here in miami, the used acuras r goin 4 cheap (and sum models r the basically the same price as new models) inthis market.

so unless u have bankruptcy wish or hate Earth, dnt get an SUV go w. tha ACURA ^_^ hope i helped !!!

  2. SUV's have quite a few downfalls for firstime drivers.

Not only is the center of gravity higher, thus making it easier to roll, they get horrible gas mileage at a time when gas prices are ridiculous, and she can have lots of people in the car with her.

The majority of teenage accidents occur when there are more than 2 people in the car.

  3. Pontiac Vibe / Toyota matrix

avoid convertibles at least for a first car.

remember 16 still oh so young. how did you drive when u were 16??

show her the insurance cost of Mustang.

  4. suv's aren't that safe. just cuz they are big doesn't mean anything. convertibles are bad on gas simply do to the top being down. wind strains the engine and it has to work even harder to maintain the speed compared to a hard top. thus using more gas. one thing you never do it buy a new vehicle. they loose 10-15 grand in value the very first year. i can't really side with one or other cuz i know how girls love to compete and show off their cars. suvs and trucks are at an all time low in sales this year. car dealers can't get rid of them due to gas. so if you did buy one you can get it for a great price. just make sure she can afford the gas. although that 2.99/gallon for first 3 years is very tempting you should look into it too

  5. I appreciate you want to do something nice for her, but I wouldn't give her either. Teenagers appreciate their first car SO much more if they've had to earn every last dime to pay for it. If you can, maybe help drive her to a job, so she can earn her own money.

  6. an SUV would be safer in a rollover accident, but she shouldn't have any say so in what year model car she gets. 75% Chance she will dogg or wreck her first car. both of my sisters did and so did my cousins. so id tell her to get i nice cheap car and then if she drives it for a month and doesn't have any road-rage and wrecks then go trade in that car and put the other half of her money to a down payment for i nicer car.

  7. Depend on what the SUV looks like, I'm 16 and wouldn't mind one, if it was like a Mercury mariner, or some thin hot like that.

  8. id say the SUV...or if she doesn't want that get her a sporty type car...but definatley not a convertible...i wouldn't recommend those for new drivers , let alone someone who has been driving for 20 years...they are so dangerous if she were to ever get into an accident!! even if she is a great driver there are plenty of nut jobs on the road that even the safest driver can't avoid!

  9. I wish my parents would at least give me a penny towards a car

I have to pay for everything my self and im only 16 i dont know how they think im going to get the money

I think you should let her get the sports car i wouldnt want to have to drive around something everyday that i didnt like

  10. well safety is always first and also money. you should research the cars more before you make any decisions and then make like a pro's and con's list and weigh out your options. as in money wise, safety, gas mileage things like that. even if your daughter might not like the car you eventually choose, just to be on the safe side i would also research deadly accidents from cars that weren't very safe and show her what she can miss from the car you brought for her.

  11. what does a 16 year old need with a SUV? they are really bad for the environment and are dangerous if she hits someone or another car! not for her but for the other car or a person and new drivers quite often have accents.

she doesnt need a suv! give her a small car. not to sound racist but im guessing your american wanting to get your kid a suv

  12. what planet do you live on???  q:-D

Is she spoiled, so you give her what she wants always? Since she is privileged and getting money from you, lets make sure you get a return on it and not throwing it away to some car Dealer.

Give her $1000 for a regular older car. Pre-1996 would be better so that it doesn`t have the stupid OBD-II computer system that has 999 codes in it which will cost you $300 every time the stupid Check engine light comes on. This way she wont be out so much money when she has her first wreck.

Pre 1996 check engine lights only have 20 or so codes and oxygen sensors only cost $30 as opposed to the 96 and newer $280 ones!

SUV? Sure, nice and safe, after the full coverage insurance and payments, she won`t be able to put any gas in it! (maybe thats a good thing)

Convert? just as safe as any other car. Tops usually need replaced every 5 years at about $1500. Sooner if some punk rips it open to steal her I-pod or Cell Phone.

So, I guess Sporty coupe. Not too sporty though as her insurance will be sky high.

My daughter is 16, She wants a 1960 Falcon.....She will have to buy it herself though. She`ll probably end up driving MY car.

  13. First of all, ask yourself this question:

Will my daughter have a better knowledge of choosing a safe car, or do I have the knowledge of safe cars?

Then, decide if your daughter is sensitive to status, or just needs a durable car.

For the first I would choose a convertible, but a european convertible. An Audi TT Roadster or a BMW Z4.

    Safe, reliable and durable.

For the latter, I would defenitly go for a compact SUV, like a BMW X3 or a Audi Q5 and no less.

It features latest  safety features and are built to last a lifetime.
