She is crazy about science and has good grades. She is also a wonderful chef and treats cooking like a science experiment. No one in our family is very good at science or math (we are all artists and musicians) so I really don't know in what direction to steer her. I thought about asking our local coroner to talk to her and perhaps give her some advice about schools. We have a hospital in our area but she can't volunteer until she is 16. Anyone out there in this field that can advise us? She loves to watch all the gross medical shows on the Discovery Channel and is always asking questions about them. I was an EMT years ago but that was in another state.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

  1. For general career information:  http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'science technicians' or such.

More info on forensic science:  http://www.aafs.org

    US colleges:  http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

Please steer clear of those online, for-profit schools such as penn foster, university of phoenix, capella, ITT tech, kaplan, kaiser, devry, strayer and others as they are merely out to 'make a profit':  http://www.capellauniversitysucks.us

http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.

  2. Forensics is a wide, and ever-widening field, and almost all disciplines are represented, even mine, accounting.  But chemistry, physics, biology, medicine, and anthropology all have forensic specialties.

So, at this time, her best bet is to get a good grounding in math, science, and general studies.  As time goes on, she will almost certainly find what she prefers to do.  And, of course, continue to talk to people already in the field.
