  1. I think it's too young.  He probably will not stay in a toddler bed at all.

You can look into getting a tent for the crib.  They work well.  It's not safe for him to be climbing out.

    Good Luck ~

  2. no he's not too little. toddler beds have rails to prevent falling. It's much safer than him falling from getting out of the crib.

  3. I have four children, and they were all in a regular bed by about 18 months.  They are all tall and we felt the danger of climbing out and possibly falling were greater than just putting them in a regular bed (with those mesh rails to keep them from rolling out while sleeping).  If you keep a monitor in his room, you can hear when he gets up and you should be fine.  You should do what you are comfortable with, but I don't think it's too soon.

  4. We're planning to take the rails off the crib when our 11 month old starts crawling out of it. It's safer for him to be closer to the floor than going over the crib rails.

  5. Not if he's getting out of his crib; a toddler bed would be much safer in that situation.  My son was in one at 17 months but all babies are different.  Getting out of his crib could be much more dangerous.

  6. It's not too little for a toddler bed. Your child will be safer being close to the floor rather than climbing over that high rail! Good luck!

  7. My daughter is 16 months this week and we took the side rail off of our crib 2 weeks ago. The first night I think she was so shocked that she didn't try anything. The second night she got out of bed and banged at the door. We went in and put her back in bed. She got right back out of bed again and was banging on the door again. We just let her go this time. After about 10-15 min. She stopped. About an hour later we checked on her expecting to have to pick her up off the floor and put her back in bed, but to our susprise she was in bed sound asleep. We have not had a problem with her getting out of bed since. We took the side rail off because she started to try and climb out of the crib, and the tents are a strangling hazard.

We switched my son, who is now 3 at about the same age, although for a different reason. I was pregnant and I knew we would need the crib for the baby, so when we moved we got him a twin bed. It took our son a little longer to get used to the idea, about 3 nights instead of 1.

We have never had a problem with either of them leaving their room because we keep the door shut, and they have no toys in their rooms, so when the get out of bed it is dark and pretty boring so they get back in bed and go to sleep.

I would suggest taking the side rail off of the crib if you have a convertable crib and Kid Co makes a nice toddler rail,

if not then put the mattress on the floor for a few weeks to get him used to it, and look for a twin bed and get a side rail for the bed, there are lots of these out there, in all different styles, to keep him from rolling out in his sleep.

We got a small set of steps from Target to help our kids get in and out of bed independently and safely so they were not climbing over stuff and falling.

We have the blue one for our son and the pink one for our daughter, but it also comes in dark wood, light wood, and white.

    good luck

  8. ~16 months is quite young to be put in a toddler bed.  Chances are if he is climbing out of his crib, he will get out of his toddler bed...and much easier.

  9. i believe you should go to a twin bed with rails toddler bed's are a waste of money. that way your child will be safer then climbing over the rail's on a crib.

  10. I don't think it is to young at all I had my son and my daughter in toddler beds by 15months it took them both a week to figure it out they would end up sleeping on the floor and after a while they realize hey my bed is more comfortable.

  11. Can the sides on the crib be raised up higher .If not you can get a bed with small rails on it low to the floor for the little one

  12. I put my son into a toddler bed at about that age and he absolutely loved it.  I was worried that he might fall out, but if he did it was only a 6 inch drop, much safer than crawling out of the crib.

  13. It's more dangerous for your baby to fall out of his crib 4 feet to the floor than to fall out of a toddler bed 1 foot to the floor. My close friend had a "big boy" bed for her son when was 16-18 months old.
