Question:

My 16 month old was bitten?

I took my 16 month old to the park yesterday and since then, she's had a large, bright red, hard bump on her left arm. Yesterday, it was very small but today it is huge. It looks very red, swollen, and has gotten a lot bigger than it was yesterday. Yesterday, it was the size of a pea, today, the size of a quarter.

I don't know what she was bitten by.

It also has a huge, yellow centre.

What could have bitten her to cause such a reaction and how can I treat it? Is it something we'd need to see the doctor about?

  1. Call your pediatrician immediately, your daughter needs to be seen by a doctor immediately.

She will probably be given an antibiotic.

    Do not wait.

  2. Probably a spider bite. As long as she has no other symptoms (like trouble breathing, etc.) she is going to be fine. You can give her oral Benadryl (check with yur doctors office for dosing amount) and put hydrocortisone or benadtyl cream directly onthe bite.

  3. Could be a spider. It sounds like a brown recluse bite to me (because of the yellow center). You could start by doing a google or yahoo image search for bites from different kinds of insects and spiders. If it was a brown recluse (or any kind of spider that would cause that kind of reaction, actually), you need to take her to the doctor so they can administer a quick shot. Recluse bites decay the effected area, turn black (after turning yellow, then a bruised color) and are generally pretty disgusting if not treated quickly.

  4. If it's larger  today and yellow in the middle i'd take her to the Dr. rite away!!!  or aleast give them a call!
