I though maybe it was her being out of shape- then I thought it was nerves-we have tried changing her diet, she throws up everything still. Where do I go from here?

  1. tell her to swim with her mouth closed...

  2. shecould either be allergic to chlorine or she could just be eating too much before swimming

  3. i would talk to her just to make sure it isn't an eating disorder, many teenage girls have one. if you are positive that isn't the problem, i would go to a doctor and see if she has any serious stomach problems, and maybe try medicines that reduce nausea.

  4. i dont know

  5. she is exerting herself too much, i suggest stop the swimming before she gets seriously ill.

    otherwise see a doctor.

  6. This comment may seem a bit strong, but too bad!

You're her mother!  Do you actually think that her throwing up is normal?  Do the other kids throw up with a similar frequency to your daughter?

We're not just talking about feeling a bit ill or eating too close to competition or working out so hard that one throws up ... you've not said any of that.  You've said that your daughter throws up after practice and more so at meets.  This is NOT NORMAL and, no matter what the cause, there is something wrong with this behavior.

THEN, you came to a message board that, when you read the questions and/or the answers you can easily come to the realization that the board is populated with mostly illiterates who cannot spell correctly, don't know how to click on "check spelling", write a complete sentence or proof read what they wrote and YOU'RE GOING TO RELY ON THEIR ANSWERS (for example, see the ignoramus Bay and his answer from above!)??

YOU'RE HER MOTHER!  THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR DAUGHTER!!!   THROWING UP AS FREQUENTLY as YOU DESCRIBED IS NOT NORMAL!!!!  TAKE HER TO A DOCTOR!!!!!!!!

BTW ... I've coached swimming for almost 30 years and I've NEVER had a kid regularly or even irregularly throw up!   Once in a 'blue moon' a kid will throw up because they ate something, but NOT every day.  Are you so cheap or so ignorant to rationalize that throwing up is NORMAL?   IT IS NOT NORMAL AND IS A SIGN SOMETHING IS WRONG!

YOU'RE THE GROWN-UP AND A PARENT!  Be responsible and do the grown-up thing.

  7. i wouldnt be too worried, i had the same kind of thing when I was swimming full time.

At big comps at big venues i wouldnt throw up but id feel nautious nd underperform purely because of nerves, but comps in my home pool i had no problems, i think that would be the most likely thing but im not a psychologist nd i never got over it so i can't really over you any advice there.

At training i would throw up regularly for a number of reasons:

    1. i had breakfast to close to the start of training in the mornings, leading to a crook stomach after warm up even

    2. the energy powders and stuff made me feel terrible, just all the stuff mixed together sloshing round in my stomach didnt sit well, so if shes on any of them try mixing them up a bit

    3. i used to throw up just because i pushed myself so hard, id say thats a contributing factor as well, after a hard set, fatigue, possible dehydration and a couple of gulps of pool water its not  a good combination. The top guys i saw train used to throw up from exhaustion regularly, on the same mornings every week when they endured their hardest set.

also try talking to her coach, he might brush it off cos hes seen it all before but give it a shot.

  8. Like the first person said, it may be an eating disorder. If a person is bulimic, they sometimes randomly throw up. This is very serious so you should talk to your daughter.

If it's not that, then make sure she's feeling fine. She may be sick with something...a flu that's lasting a while. Depending on how long she continues to trow up, you may want to seek some medical attention.

Does she eat right before swimming? Because that could be causing it.She may also be over working herself. Her body could just be getting tired and she may react this way. I was on a swim team once and I'll say that it is difficult.

Ask her if she doesn't like the chlorine. I have heard of people feeling sick or uncomfortable because of the smell. She may be reacting to it.

If the swim practices are long she may not be able to take it. You should take her to the pool once and just let her swim for like 1/2 an hour and see how she's feeling afterward.

It may be nothing serious, but it could be bad. I hope she feels better!

    GOOD LUCK!

  9. If you don't like eating after swim practice, eat in enough time advance that all of her food is digested. If anyone eats a large meal before swim practice, their are going to get some bad stomach cramps at the very least. It might be that she was just eating too much before she worked out and was disrupting her digestion.
