for the last few months her eyesight has become blurry when she looks at things from a long distance she has become short sighted i think it may be because of the amount of tv she watches and hours she spends on the computer. this may sound silly but is there anything else she can do ( ie eat healthier more carrots maybe) to stop this now or has the damage to her sight already been done. she wants to get laser treatment so that she can see long distant again what i want to know is besides the cost what cons or problems could she have after getting this done

  1. I never spent that long on the computer or watched that much tv when my eye sight went bad and I'm not old either.  Sometimes it just goes bad.  You shouldn't blame your sister's habits or her diet.

Get her to go to an eye doctor.  They will explain the cost, pros, cons and any remedies that might help.

  2. My understanding has always been that near-sightedness is inherited. So I don't think the TV and computer have ruined your sister's eyesight.

She needs to get an eye exam and buy some glasses. Laser surgery is expensive. You need to do research on the cost and effects of laser surgery.

  3. Myth and facts ...Its a myth that watching T.V close up and and starring at computers makes vision blurry its also a myth that carrots improve vision she would literally turn into carrot before she consumes enough ... Secondly laser surgery will improve her vision significantly but later she may need a repeat of the surgery

  4. my sister just got laser eye treatment, and she loves it. she said it hurt the first night, but after that it was great!

  5. I am not an optometrist, but I don't think that watching TV and using a computer can make you shortsighted.  It's not unusual for people to develop shortsightedness during their teen years.

Again, not an optometrist, but I think laser treatment would be a bad idea at that age.  Her eyes may still change a lot in the next few years.  Wait about 5 years.

  6. from what I understand it is not often done on people under 30 because the eyes change the most in their 20's.  she may be stuck with glasses or contacts for the time being.  watching TV and computer work is not to blame.
