Question:

My 18 year old sister and her pregnancy...or not?

My little sister just called me. She is 18 and is not on BC. I am 30 and talked to her until I was blue in the face about getting on BC (I've been on it since I was 16). I even gave her condoms for her graduation gift, as she moved in with her BF. She just called and said that she had a day long period (light blood, I was thinking implantation) Thursday. Tested positive Friday and started a "normal" period yesterday. Normal flow (heavy) and normal cramps. I know you can have your period while pregnant but the only thing that comes to MY mind is miscarriage. What do you all think? She has an appt. Friday. If you miscarry 3-5 weeks in, isn't it just like a heavy period?

  1. If shes bleeding like a normal period I wouldnt get to worried yet. But if she has cramping with the bleeding that is the major sign of miscarriage so I would suggest going to the ER. Some women do get the period while pregnant because their body just isn't used to NOT having one. I suggest if there is an urgent care clinic around you take her to one just to be on the safe side and make sure nothing is going wrong. Good luck! I wish you and your sister the best!

  2. sounds like a normall period dont worry my sister misscarried early on and she bled right through her mattress you could take her to the er just to be sure

  3. yeah I miscarried and that is exactly what happened to me!

  4. Sounds like she did have a miscarriage, although... It's possible that her body is just cleaning itself out for the baby.

  5. Ask her what color is the blood. I know its gross but if its bright red, and clotty, most likely a miscarriage. If its brownish with no clots, then she might be okay. If I were her I'd tell her to call her doctor asap.
