My 1979 Mercury 115 outboard idles fast

Question

I crank this thing up and it sounds like its wide open....I checked and throttle plates are closed, fast idle lever is completely closed. I have not messed with the carbs at all, the only thing I did was change a trigger under the flywheel and start it and it wont idle its almost like wide open throttle

Two things to check, did you install the staotor in the correct position, and is the trigger linkage correct?  Get back to me.

What color is the stator?

Your fuel likely has alcohol in it now!
