My 1981 Camaro makes a clink sound when trying to start and wont even try to turn over whats wrong?

I replaced the starter and the starter silinod the car just will not start up the battery is good and it just makes a clink sound i dont know what to do iam out of ideas

  1. make sure the battery terminals are good and clean and re-tighten them, if it still doesn't start I would take that battery out and have it rechecked for a bad cell even though it's new.

    How do you know?  Try a jump start. If that works then your battery is dead.

    If the jump does not work, then either the new starter/solenoid is bad OR the wires / connectors are rusted and bad.

  4. you did something wrong while replacing the alternater.  is the pulley on correctly? is the wiring right?   if it isn't the alternater it HAS to be the battery.  Seems wierd to me.  sounds like something might not be grounded.  

    Also check the fuses.  it mgiht be the ignition fuse, or another one.
