My 1985 honda accord stalling?

1985 honda accord- carburetor. not fuel injected. it has 137,000 miles

when i start it up after it has been sitting for a few hours, i have to drive for like 25 minutes minimum before it can idle by itself. I have to be constantly be giving it gas or it will stall evertime i stop at a light! (thank God I have a five speed so I don't have to shove it in park to start it everytime!). Even if the car sits for just a few hours, I still gotta drive it for at least 20 minutes or more and constantly giving it gas when stopped at a stop light or stop sign, ect... or it will just stall. It does start right up after it stalls though and runs great when running.

what could be wrong? I'm tired of starting it up every 2 minutes for like a half hour! Also, I don't know if this is a relating problem, but when going up hills on the highway, it loses like 10mph even if i floor it!

  1. sounds like you need to adjust the carburetor idle s***w maybe and as far as the hill thing does it kick down a gear this could always be a carb related prob with the kick down lever

  2. The problem is it's a 1985, it's like 20 years old with a lot of miles. Therefore it is going to break down eventually, I would advise you to trade it in or sell it so you can get a little something for it before it breaks completely down or never starts then it would be worthless.

  3. well heres you problem..

YPUR DRIVING A 23 YR OLD CAR!!!

maybe its time to retire that thing and get a new one!!!
