My 1989 bayliner has water in the ski storage area?

we just put the boat in the water for the first time. the swim step is missing and the holes are not filled yet but in the ski storage area there is now 4 in or so of water is this normal or could it be coming in the holes from the swim step? it was in the water for about an hour. it does not run at this point. or have any power to turn on the point.

First off you put the boat in the water way to soon, yes the water will enter the holes and allow the hull to fill, you have also allowed another problem to accrue, buy not filling the holes you have allowed water to penetrate into the wood it the transom, before filling the holes you will need to give the transom enough time to dry, many boats go to the salve age yard do to bad transoms, Bay liner is one of the boats that are built from the poorest quality wood, look for soft or spongy spots in the floor, chances are you will have some if the boat has any age to it,

    Don't mean to scare you, just give it plenty of time to dry before filling the holes Preferably with Epoxy, NOT Silicone
