I have changed the impeller and water pump housing and gasket, both t-stats and gaskets, both head gaskets and new bolts torqued to specs. It is pumping water out the tell tale. Water pressure is 7 at idle and 30 at WOT. It heats up to about 160 at idle and around 180 to 190 after i get over around 4000 to 5000 rpms. then the alarm goes off. What else can it be.

  1. Sound like you have an exhaust gasket leak that puts pressure in the cooling system> As that a lot of pressure wide open>as it seems it been overheated a few times> replace the EX gaskets and see> 150 degs is the temp>

  2. what's the compression?

    other possible causes of overheating:

    Incorrectly set timing.

Lean mixture due to partially clogged carb jets.

    Inadequate oil.

"it the timming is off enought to cause over heat wouldnt it not run very well."

    true

Was overheating the reason for the head gasket change?

Did you rebuild the carbs when you did the heads?

Be curious to see your compression numbers.

    could be a malfunctioning gauge.
