my 1996 mitsubishi eclipse whistles when i drive it, it also burns oil when its in neutral, it constantly whistles and literaly makes heads turn, its super emberrasing! what should i do?the noise is definately coming from the front of the car and the sound gets lower when im giving it gas. the check engine light started blinking too...its stick...what should i do? dont tell me i bought a lemon i already know i did.

  1. its not a big deal.

    REPLACE THE HEAD GASKET ITS LIKE 25 BUCKS! you can do it yourself.

    Then look under your car look for a bolt right under your oil pan. and see if that's leaking oil if it is replace it.

    If you dont want to spend the money on a new head gasket go to AutoZone or any auto parts store and buy a Oil leak stopper for 7 bucks. that should solve your problem.


  2. If you have some time give a little more description of the whistle. Sometimes belts make that noise that can be taken for a whistle. If your serpentine belt is old and worn or if it's not on at the right tension it can make a noise similar to what your describing. As far as burning oil, there are some stop-leaks as people have previously mentioned but having the vehicle diagnosed will definitely keep your mind a ease as to what the problem really is, have a friend do the work, we all know one that is savvy with autos, just think of who.
