My 1997 RM250 is burning way to much gas please help!!!!!!!!!!?

Question

I have a 1997 RM250, it is burning way to much gas, it burns a tank in about 30-45 mins and it smokes like crazy. i am putting a quart of oil to 5 gallons of gas and your only supposed to use 4 gallons to a quart. it isnt fouling plugs so i wouldnt think its the carb. i cant figure it out!!!

any suggestions will help and will be appericated!!!!!!!!

LOL,,,You mix HOW MUCH of What to What??

Lets see,,

1 gallon = 4 Quarts

5 Gallons= (5 x 4)=20 Quarts,,,Right?

1 quart of Oil  into 20 quarts of Gas = 20:1

Thats at least TWICE the oil the thing should have

Most Bike Mfgrs  recommend 32:1

Most High Performance Oil recommends 50:1

1 Qt of  most average motorcycle-specific 2 stroke oil will do 10 gallons of gas @ 40:1

The MOST Oil you should use  is 4 OZs per Gallon,,,32:1

20 Oz's for 5 Gallons of gas...32:1

Remix the Fuel correctly and try it again.

The oil is in the gas in two-stroke engines to act as a lubricant, so by putting a quart to 5 gallons you are not using enough oil, and may have damaged the engine.

Maybe that is why you are getting poor mileage, you think?

two strokes r suposed to burn gas fast when they r being ridden really hard and there suposed to somoke a lot but it might have something to do with the intake

May need a top end rebuild (cylinder, piston & rings).

2 stroke engines require rebuilds quite often.

Do you remember when the last time it was rebuilt? - if no, then I think it's time.

Low compression won't fully burn the oil in the pre-mix and cause it to smoke excessively.

The engine will have to work twice as hard to produce the same performance of a fresh engine - that would increase the fuel consumption.

it might be your reed valves not shutting correctly so its sucking too much gas, also it most likly your float is not shutting all the way or your float needle is warn out, pull your carb apart and clean it with Chemical B-12 and check for tho's two parts and go form there..and yeah i have the same bike just a 96 and it is burining gas too fast
