My 1999 saturn sl-1 service engine soon light comes on and goes off and drives rough?

there is also sometimes a clicking noise that accelerates when i hit the gas. Could someone please tell me whats wrong and how long and how much it will be to fix it

The clicking is probably unrelated, but it's hard to tell. as far as the check engine light, well, you either have an ignition or fuel issue. Get the code read, and have a mechanic CHECK th problem. He shouldn't change part unless he can guarantee you that he's fixing the problem, not guessing. I suggest a certified tech only. No wanna be's.

"CHECK ENGINE" means to have a qualified person to have it "CHECKED".....

sounds like your car just needs a tune up, i have a 2000 saturn sl-1 and the check engine light stays on and it also has a clicking sound when i hit the gas but even after a tune up the check engine light stays on but it rides smooth.

Sounds like the alternator may need replacing, the clicking noise is from the brush housings scratching the commutator because the brushes are worn out.. Thats why the light comes on, it means the battery is not getting charged. It can be changed for about $60 plus labour in about 1/2 an hour.
