I've been trying to get him to drink water for months with no results! He eats baby food but wont drink anything but formula, even if its put into his bottle. I want to cut out the formula all together but I'm worried about his hydration.

  1. its not a very good way to do it, but you could put him in front of tv and give him liquids with a spoon.

  2. good question!!! lol...when i was transistioning(sp?) zaccariah off of formula and fully onto milk, i would mix it half and half (half formula and half whole milk... as for the water...get that flavored propel water...zac drinks regular water, but sometimes needs a little flavor added to it...

  3. yur baby will get use to it..

    maybe ask yur doctor!

  4. you could try flavoring the milk or soy milk.  After a while he will be thursty enough he will drink it.  Try different juices, juices with yogurt.  I always thined my sons juice 50% water.

  5. Mix the milk half and half with the formula, gradually decreasing the amount of formula until it is all milk. If he drinks juice dilute it. Only put maybe a 1/2 ounce of juice and the rest water. Also, what you can do is get those little packets (I get them at the Dollar Tree) of the sugar free 100% juice Hawiaan Punch packets (Like you add to the water bottles) and put half of a packet into his water. I never use a full packet as it is too strong.

  6. You can get him off formula and onto milk through a gradual transition.  Put 1/4 milk and 3/4 formula for 3 days.  Then 3 days with half of each.  Then 3 days of 3/4 milk and 1/4 formula.  And finally, give whole milk without the formula.

Keep trying with the water, maybe try giving juice also (100% juice, diluted with water).  Also feed him plenty of fruit/veggies - they have a high water content and will help him stay hydrated  :)

  7. This is simple. You can do two things.

1)Slowly dilute the formula over a period of a week (with water/or milk)

    or

    2) Just dont give in, DO NOT give your child the formula, only give them millk and or water.  Eventually your child will learn that "Oh geez this is all I can have"

I promise this will work--good luck!

  8. I have three children, and for one of them, this was a problem.  To wean him off the formula, I started cutting it with water, essentially diluting it.  When he turned one, I spent one week making it at 3/4 strength.  The next week, I went to 1/2 strength.  The third week, 1/4 strength, and at that point, we were done!  With less formula in his system, he was more willing to try other foods and drink other liquids.

Good luck with this.  It is a tough problem, but I know you can do it!

  9. I would suggest not mixing the formula as strong so he's getting more water.

  10. maybe he is ready for a sippy cup---if he doesnt want to give up formula--who cares?! what is the rush to stop the formula--they grow up fast enough and you know if he is drinking formula he is getting the nutrients he needs and not getting dehydrated
