I'm a new mom and unsure whats going on, my daughter has been sucking her hand a lot and is extra fussy, she will not sleep unless I'm holding her or shes right next to me. She has recently been getting really Rosie cheeks and feels a lot warmer then normal, but has no fever. She is also eating way more often and is now up to 8oz every two or three hours. What could been wrong with my little pumpkin?

  1. all babies are different . she could be sucking her hand for comfort, teething or maybe she just found it. i had to add cereal to my sons bottle to help "fill him up". she could have an ear infection which can cause the drooling and the warm and rosey cheeks

  2. First all, 8 oz of formula is way too much.  Is she spitting it back up?  Also, sounds like your daughter maybe teething.  Try giving her a cool teething ring to nibble on.

  3. Try feeding her until you know (by her behavior) she is full.

If this is not the issue (and I just don't seem to think it truly is) then it's very possible that she's beginning to go through a teething phase. A close friend's son broke his first tooth at only 11 weeks, although this is more uncommon. The teeth may be starting to get ready to break through which can take weeks and sometimes a couple of months to actually break through to the surface.

Have some Baby Orajel on hand for moments of obvious discomfort if teething is the issue (you'll want it later on anyway if she's not teething) and let her suck on a cool damp washcloth. My son loved chewing on those and enjoyed the cool feeling on his face and gums. Your daughter's behavior is almost exactly that of my son's only two weeks before his first tooth broke free, although he was around five months old.

Use this and the personal tips that others' have given you, and this should help the discomfort. If this continues and her behavior doesn't change with the techniques given to you, be sure to contact your pediatrician to insure there is no underlying problem. Rest assured though, that if it is teething, it will end and distracting her with a washcloth or other "chew friendly" toys like smaller rubber duckies will help!

  4. teething? try cold wet wash rags

  5. teething early. The first ones are the worst. My son got his at 3 months

  6. Maybe she's hungry..that's what my baby did when he was hungry.  Also she may be getting some teeth.

  7. teething...

  8. Feed her more and she could be getting some teeth in already.
