So, my son was in day care on MOnday and Tuesday and I was already so unhappy with the way things were being done there so we pulled him out and he was home with my hubby today. Since coming home on MOnday the baby has been so cranky and so tired. He was the same way on Tuesday when he came home. He is still eating, but just sooooo exhausted. He only slept about an hour total on Monday and Tuesday while at day care and he normally sleeps several hours during the day so is is just catching up on his sleep now or should I be worried. He literally is awake only to eat and plays for a few minutes and is back sleeping for hours.

Should I be concerned? His bowel movements are fine, he doesnt show signs of being sick.....I just have never seen him like this before.

  1. I am going through the same thing right now. My son started daycare a few weeks ago (he is 7 months old) and since he had only been with me or my mother, it was a HUGE adjustment for him. He sleeps 20 minutes a day - that's it! Then he comes home and crashes for an hour and a half, I have to wake him up to feed him, bathe him, etc. and then he is SO ready to go back down. Your baby just isn't used to the sights and sounds of daycare. If he goes to sleep then he might miss something cool! But he is so young, it will probably only take a couple of weeks for him to become familiar with everything. If he is still eating ok, and not overly cranky or upset, then unfortunately he (and you) will just have to make it through the adjustment period. I feel your pain, but I can say that it does get better. Good luck!

  2. When children start daycare for the first time they have get used to a whole new routine.  It is really rough for the first couple weeks cause everything is different.  There are also so many new things going on that it is exhausting for them.  It will also take some getting used to in the sleeping department depending on what he is used to at home.  At daycares they usually leave the lights on, the other children could be awake and screaming for their bottles or diaper changes, he may not be used to people talking while he's napping, etc.  It really all just takes time.  He will get used to it - give him a chance.

  3. It may be too loud or distracting there for him to nap well, he's away from mommy's smell and touch and who knows what else. I know my son could never nap well in a daycare enviornment given the noise situation. But at 2 1/2 months, who knows what's bugging him, my guess is it's being away from you and being insecure.

  4. He's probably just getting used to the change. Babies are mostly adaptable but sometimes have trouble to a major change like that. He was sleep deprived so he is just catching up on lost sleep. If it lasts more then a couple of days I would ring the doc's.

  5. Call your pediatrician. Ask some questions on teh phone...it might be normal...and if they want to check him out they will have you make an appointment BUT dont be extremely worried if they want to check him out...they might just be being careful

  6. He is just adjusting to the change. Once he knows the daycare leaders better and is more comfortable with the situation he will start to sleep and be more relaxed.

  7. I would think that he may be just adjusting to being in daycare instead of home.  I imagine trying to sleep in a daycare setting is a lot different than what he's used to at home.  Its probably brighter and louder there.  So, once he gets used to napping with the noise, he'll probably perk up.  Just keep an eye on him, and keep good communication with the staff at the daycare.  They may be able to help you trouble shoot what is going on with him.  Overall though, I would guess he is just tired from the transition.

  8. yeah call your doc but im thinking two yr molers if he doesnt have them my 2yr old was a different child when hers were comming in
