Two of my cats get the same kind of food-purina one. The other cat gets purina food that's supposed to support a healthy urinary tract, as he has had problems with that. Just recently the two cats that get regular food keep trying to sneakily eat his. I make them stop every time but they keep going back to it. AND, both of them puke every time they eat it. What is going on here?

  1. I would feed all cats the same.  Mine also eat the "different" food that taste different.

As long as that food isn't overyly expensive.

The way I help my Urinary tract is to buy the DRY food for this  and the can food is Friskies... or some other brand.

Then put a couple of drops of lemon juice in the water > which keeps the urin on the acidic side... haven't had problems in years.

The food might not be harder to diegest... I would put some acidophilus (you get it at health food stores or in the vitimine isle at a reg store) and that will help with thier digestion.

At least it doesn't give them diahrreah (sp?)

    good luck

  2. Let them have some of the UTI food.  Mix a little bit in with their regular food.  It won't hurt them.  I used to feed Purina and I mixed healthy weight and their urinary food together and gave it to both cats.

Outside of the fact that Purina is lousy food, there's no reason not to let all cats eat it.

If you mix just a little in with their food it should give them time to get used to it, and they hopefully won't hork it up.

But if they keep doing that, then you either need to keep it away from them or put the one cat on a different food, perhaps even one that they can all eat.

If it's got urinary problems, then canned food would be the way to go.

  3. well, i had the same problem... i have one cat who is under wieght and 2 that are over weight... know what it's like knowing the fatter cats eat the food that puts weight on!? ... i have to keep them and their food in different rooms/areas.... thats the only way i've found to keep the right cat eating the right food.

cats/all animals will eat whatever food they want to eat (my cats have eaten dog food before... and my dogs cat food.

  4. No, they're not lacking nutrients. Your other cat is eating something they aren't. You will have to feed the cat with the special food in another room from the other two.

Now, in regard to the cat with the Urinary problems. I would like to ask you what source is the water they drink coming from. Is it the tap? If so, is your water very hard? Is there alot of crusty buildup around the faucets?

If so, I would like to give you something to think about.

Understand, I have NO scientific proof to back this up, HOWEVER, I believe that the water we give our cats (and dogs) can contribute to Urinary problems and stone formation. To me, it stands to reason, if there are a lot of dissolved minerals in the tap water and those minerals will clog up the plumbing, those same minerals have to be processed by the kidneys, and can create crystals and stones in the cat's (and dog's) urinary tract.

I have a cat also. She is 11 years old, and if I won't drink the water from my faucet, neither will she. She has been on bottled water all her life. In all that time, she has only had one UTI, when she was 2.

Again, I have no proof, but I would give your cats bottled water to drink. Yes, it may be more expensive, but how much will it cost to have surgery to remove stones from their bladders, or unblock a male cat?
