I'm new to being a pet owner.. and my 2 inside kitties have fleas... So any advice is helpful! I also don't have a lot of money to blow...I bought flea collars, the don't seem to be working... I bought a spray to spray on them, that seems like it has helped a little...and I bought a "flea comb" which combs some of the fleas off but not even half the amount that's on them! Plus the fleas just hop off the comb anyways...which I try to drown them before they go anywhere lol... Any advice is appreciated! thanks!

  1. Get them some Frontline.  You do not need a prescription for it, and it works well!

  2. Any of the drops you can find at Wal-Mart that you put on their neckline will work great. We used it for our dogs when we lived out in the country and the first 2 days they came in with ticks. Never saw any more after using it.

  3. defanatly use advantage it works great  it is a little expencive but its worth it !!!!

                                               :D

  4. You can buy Capstar and Frontline Plus at drsfostersmith.com . The Capstar will kill all the fleas on your cat almost instantly and the frontline will prevent re-infestation. Use the Capstar right away. It will kill all fleas on your cat with in an hour. It is imperative that you do not skip this. Frontline (or advantage, revolution, promeris, etc.) is only effective if the flea bites the cat. Fleas have a 3 week lifespan and only feed for a few days of those three weeks, so you must use Capstar to kill all live fleas on your cat. After you Capstar add on the Frontline Plus and it will keep fleas off your cat for 30 days. Any eggs that hatch will be killed when they feed by the Frontline. Refrontline every 30 days. No vet visit required and totally safe.

Frontline contains fipronil, which spreads via the body oils killing fleas within 24 hours and ticks within 48 hours. Ticks are generally killed before they bite, decreasing the risk of tick-borne disease transmission. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

Frontline Plus also contains (S)-methoprene, an Insect Growth Regulator, which prevents an insect from maturing or reproducing. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

You can use FRONTLINE flea and tick control once a month and it's completely waterproof. Provide your cat with the best flea and tick protection, right from the start.

Capstar - Treats flea infestations on pets. Starts killing adult fleas on the pet within 30 minutes. One dose lasts 24 hours. Use when pets are likely to be exposed to fleas. Also may be used prior to surgery, boarding, or grooming. Active ingredient is Nitenpyram, which interferes with the normal nerve transmission of insects, effectively killing them. Not a preventive. For pets over four (4) weeks of age. Package of 6.

  5. Listen to me! Get some Capstar tablets from your vet or local pet store the first moment you have! Now if they're open!! (flea collars are useless, I swear fleas laugh at them). Also ask your vet about Program and I really would recommend it. I battled epic fleas for months and months with Frontline and one of my cats is very allergic to fleas so I was getting desperate. This stuff really works!!!

Once you get the fleas on the cats under control you're going to have to take care of the house - please make sure the cats aren't in the house for this. Either board them for the day or at the very least, leave them in their carriers in the bathroom (or another room you're not bombing) and keep the bombs (spray can bombs) away from them.

  6. Get a flea bomb and bomb your home after you treat your cats. If you just treat the cats with a flea treatment and don't get rid of the fleas in the home they will just keep coming back.

  7. We had the same problem once. Flea collars are worthless. The vet told us to try Advantage Plus & it really worked great, it says to use it every month but we are kinda cheap so we tried to go a few months before another dose & it is actually effective for quite a while. It can be a little more pricey than other treatments but in the long run it will save you money & is totally worth it.

  8. Give your cats a bath in Dawn Dishwash Liquid. Use warm comfortable water and start at the back of their necks and work toward the tail using the warm water and Dawn. It also will repel fleas after it is used. Towel dry the cats and if they allow it blow dry on medium or low heat.

Then treat your carpet and floors to a dose of 20-Mule Team Borax powder. It is a natural non poisonous flea killer. Shake it across the floors, sofas, chairs and floors and then after one hour or two, vacuum it all up with the dead fleas.

You may have to repeat this on two or three more days, but the benefits are excellent and the treatments are cheap and effective.

Good luck and tell your friends here at Y!A how it all works ;-))

  9. You need to spray the house as well. Baseboards, corners, anywhere the cat travels. If you just do the cats, the fleas hop right back on them. You need to get a decent flea spray too, not pet store stuff. Get it at the vet.

  10. well you're doing good so far. but, you might need to spend a little more and get something from the vet that you rub on their necks once a month. thatll do the trick.

  11. The one and only treatment that I have used that worked was Advantage.  Everything else pales in comparison.
