I took my 2 month old son to get his shots today, Polio, Hib, DT&P, Hep B and some Oral Med... he did really good afterwards he has slept most the day but now he seems to be really fussy and his nose is running and breathing a little loud, and a slight cough.. he is eating just fine though. What could have went wrong. Is my baby having an allergic reaction??? HELP

  1. This "completely normal reaction" is yet another reason I won't vaccinate my daughter.

I hope he feels better soon!

  2. when your given an immunisation what they give you is a tiny tiny ammount of the actual bacteria so your body can form an immune to it, its quite normal to get a few symtoms. Call you doc though to be on the safe side

  3. just a side effect. my girls both went through that. call his doc. if you are really concerned.

  4. Don't worry it is quite normal.

  5. This is completely normal... didn't they tellyou what to expect??

Common reactions are irritability, low grade fever, discomfort at the injection site adn vomiting diarhea... all are compeletely normal and nothing to worry about. You can give him some infant panadol (tylenol... whatever it is where you are) to help him... he will probably be fine almost as soon as you give it to him

I can't believe you weren't told... that is rediculous! I hope I didn't come across as rude when I asked that (like sarcastic or anything). I'm glad he is feeling better... for my daughter it usually only last 48 hours at the most. I would definitely complain to the ppl where you went so that noone else has to be freaked out like you were.

    Enjoy your bubba :)

  6. If he was having a severe allergic reaction, it probably would have started very soon after the shots were given.  He could just be sensitive to the injections.   Any time you feel that an infant is having trouble breathing, monitor them very closely.  If there is any bluish tint around the mouth, take the baby to the ER immediatly.

  7. give him panadol straight away, then see how he is in an hours time,

it could be just a side affect as he has been given a little douse of these bugs in the injection.  If he is better keep the panadol up to him for the next 24 hours but if he is not better take him straight up to the hospital I hope this helps but I think its just part of the needle and he will be okay
