My son has reflux so we have to put cereal in all his bottles..We have been doing so for about 5 weeks..He eats 4 oz of formula with 2 TBLS. of rice cereal every 3 hours..I just went back to work this week..The baby sitter told me 2 days ago that within 10 hours he only ate 2 bottles ..He is staying with my mother for the weekend and she told me that in the middle of the night she had to boost him to 5 oz because he just wasn't satisfied with 4..But he didn't want to eat for 7 hours straight..He is not fussy at all, no fever, and sleep patterns have not changed..I would say it's the heat but all air conditioners at the baby sitters house and mine are running all day long and where my mother lives it's actually chilly..He regularly poops once a day today he pooped 3 times..It's consistent with peanut butter..Any ideas??

  1. Honey all kids go through this.  it may just be time to up his feedings.  Say 6 ounces just least often.  But all kids have their time when they just dont feel like eating, then the next thing you know it seems as though they cant seem to get enough.  Don't worry.  As long as he is happy, is still gaining weight with no signs of anything else going on he is fine.  Congrats on the baby boy!

  2. sounds ok to me. unless it is a drastic change, like not eating for a whole day, i would not worry. sounds like a healthy kid to me. kids have mood swings like adults do, some times we just aren't really that hungry

  3. check with the doctor but hey go through this . all babies r different as long as he is still going to the bathroom, it's ok.I THINK!

Also , solids were used way too early here and the consistency of his p**p is WAY TOO THICK.  His bowels cannot take cereal at such a young stage. talk to his doctor.

  4. Actually, many doctors (mine included) recommend using cereal in a bottle for a baby who has reflux.  It does not mean that this mother is "introducing solids."  The rice cereal is heavier than milk and for that reason it helps weigh the feeding down a bit to reduce the reflux.  It is very common to use this method in lieu of using a prescription medication.  However, rice cereal does not have many calories compared to formula or breastmilk and will not make the baby feel "more full."  It is also not a choking hazard!  There is a small risk of aspiration which is completely different from choking.  This risk is for babies who do not have  a coordinated sucking/swallowing action.  Please, please, check your facts before you post on such a sensitive subject.

As for the not eating, babies are funny, they go through spells.  As long as he's pooping and peeing and acting fine I would not get too concerned.

Call your doctor's office and discuss it with the nurse if you are worried, it will help ease your mind.

  5. cereal is going to make a baby fuller for longer..and if he isnt eating that much during the day...have you noticed maybe he is eating more at night? i know when my little girl was a baby she barely ate during the day and then wanted to stay up all night and eat lol...but i do know that cereal will keep em full longer than regular formula or breast milk..i dont think you should worry unless your baby goes days without eating..cause with babies and toddlers some days they are startving and other days they dont really want to eat at all..lol being a parent can be so stressful! hope it works out for you!!

  6. personally i think you have introduced solids..WAY too early!!

Unless you have been advised by an expert...your son is definately not ready for solids!! i think you should  introduce when they express that they are ready...if he's 2 months and you have been doing it since 3weeks old??? thats too early..

I would call the nurses or your doctor..i doubt there is anything wrong but i can always tell when my little girl is not well as she misses feeds...

He could just be not ready to eat either..it could be absolutely nothing!

All the best for your little one x

  7. take him to the hosbitle it mite be seriouse

  8. Cereal in the bottle -- that's a trick they used to use years ago to get babies to sleep through the night.  It fell out of favor because it's not particularly nutritious for the baby and can be a choking hazard. It only stands to reason that he would be eating less often. Rice cereal add a significant amount of calories and volume to the formula and digests slower.

My sister's babies both had reflux and they were given medication until they outgrew it.
