I am new father that has a quite disheartening thing happening with my 11 week old son. Recently, almost every time I lean over him to baby talk him or pick him up he screams bloody murder. I an very gentle with my son both in speech and in handling. It seems to be me because as soon as I had him off to momma he stops crying. He is breastfeeding so I understand that he has a closer bond with momma, but I involve myself with him on a daily basis. I know that I am a good father, I just don't understand what is going on. Is this just a phase that he will grow out of? Has anyone else gone through this kind of situation? Please help! Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  1. It happens and is quite normal. How do you involve yourself with him daily? When he starts crying you have to remain calm and relax. You child can feel what mood you are in and can always tell if you aren't comfortable which makes the child insecure. Just remember to breathe.

  2. He'll definitely grow out of it.  Since babies have poor eyesight, perhaps you could try wearing the mom's bathrobe when you want to hold the baby, so you'd smell like her.  Might help.

Otherwise, could you be wearing some kind of scent or fabric that the baby is sensitive to?

  3. What does a 2 month old need or want ? Food, Sleep, Dry Dippers, Bath, Entertainment. Since mom has the food department covered, the baby can handle the sleep department by himself. You can provide any or all of the next 3 departments. He needs to know that you are able & willing to provide his basic needs. Your Love & Time Will Build A Bond With Your Child. If this doesn't work within 2 months,   ask the doctor or a parent counselor. It is not a "phase"  When you ignore a problem it gets worse.

  4. ha my baby is that way with her daddy, sons are attached to mom as where daughters are attached to dad, it switches around at around 3yrs old though so relax, did you ever think he might just be hungry ?

  5. Hmm try moving him around when he's in your arms and open your eyes more O.O and look at him... and well thats what I do... to my lil brother, and yeah he likes my mom better >.> GIVE HIM A BATH THAT MIGHT HELP... I personally think he likes me a good amount, and I think I am good with kids

  6. My baby was like that with her father for about four months. It's pretty normal. Most of the parents I know had the same issue. It's because they are new to this world and they know the smell of their mama.
