Is this normal? He's been really hot, but has no temp. We saw the doctor this morning and he told me to wait 3 days to see if it's gets worse. Has anyone else had a little one throw up so much in a 24 hr period? It's not just a little spit up, he puking and it's flying.

  1. Are you bottle or breast feeding?

  2. It sounds like it could be acid reflux...

I don't know how comfortable I would be with the pediatrician not having any answers for me, and then telling me to wait it out 3 days.  I recommend a 2nd opinion.

Don't freak out too much.  The fact that he doesn't have a fever is a great relief itself.  Just make sure you try to keep some fluids in him for now.  Good luck!

    *edit*

By the way, when vomiting, yes it is normal that it's flying out.  The first time my daughter puked, she was standing in her crib and it went like 2-3 feet across the room.  Craziness.

  3. The same thing has been happening to my daughter since she was born. In our case it's just a lot of gas trapped under the milk that causes it - we solved it by burping her more frequently during feedings (I breastfeed her and have to stop her every 5 minutes to burp her - or every 1/2 - 2/3 of an ounce when her dad is bottle feeding her expressed milk)  You may want to try more frequent burpings before you take him in for a bunch of invasive tests.

  4. I'm not in the medical field so I can only offer my own personal experiences, but my son had a condition called Pyloric Stenosis as an infant. It's actually quite common, and causes projectile vomiting.

It started at approx. 10 days give or take, and his pediatrician told me the exact same thing, wait 3 days. I brought him in every 3 days for weeks, trusting what the dr. said. Finally I brought him into a specialist and they ultrasounded his abdomen and discovered it.

Your stomach has a Pyloric muscle, which allows food to flow out of your stomach and into your intestines. Pyloric Stenosis is when the muscle is too large and only allows the food to trickle, not pass freely, so you feed your baby, the food stays in the stomach and eventually comes back up.

The condition requires surgery, my son had it at 8 wks.

TOTALLY NOT SAYING YOUR SON HAS THIS- I just want to give you a heads up- if he doesnt stop vomiting, this is one thing you could ask about. I had never heard of it before my son needed surgery, I dont think alot of ppl know about it.

  5. call up a dr/clinic tell them what is going on with your baby & hopefully they can provide you with more information on how to respond/react to this situation. be sure if you baby does go into the er for whatever reason that lab tests are done to check for any abnormal things that can come around (example:cancer...something that was found after a lot of declines from drs who said that i had a simple cold, when i was sick like this for months but thanks to my mom she didn't give up on wanting to discover the truth of why i was like that for such a long time laying around for months like the way i did...all until a blood test was done & it came out to be leukemia 12 days before my 3rd bday on mothers day in 1995.)

  6. maybe he is reacting to the formula that you are giving him. His stomach is having a reacton to it.  My nephew had the same reaction and once his formula was changed the vomiting reduced to just spit up.

  7. If you believe it is actual throwing up, and not just alot of spit up, because children that have acid reflux will spit up alot,,,, or if they eat too much they will throw up what they have eaten, now if your son is not doing any of this, seems like he has an upset tummy, fever, or agitated than i would suggest you call his ped. or take him to the e.r.

  8. Does this happen alot? My kids had acid reflux, maybe he has a virus.
