My two year old son threw up once last night and once this morning. He threw up really bad. He has been putting his hands on his tummy every time he urinates... We took him to the doctor this am; the doctor said he has slight ear infection and also took his urine culture. The results wont come in until monday morning. Now he refuses to drink and is acting very tired. We gave him tylenol for fever. Should we take him to ER because he is not drinking and acting tired?

  1. He's dehydrated and because he's so young I'd take him to the ER. We had to do that with my brother when he was sick and wouldn't drink. They'll give him an IV. You can tell him that if he doesn't drink then he'll have to go to the hospital and get liquid through a needle in his arm. If he drink and then throws it up take him in anyway.

  2. Fluids are the most important thing.  If he is refusing to drink and you cannot get any fluids into him, I would go to the ER.

  3. Go to the grocery store, freezer section /  baby section and they have those Pedialyte Pops.

They can be frozen and he will be eating them like an icepop.

They will keep his elecyrolytes in balance.

I don't think the ER is necessary. Throwing up does cause lethargy. Be sure you know all the symptoms of dehydration though.  Do go if you think he's dehydrated.

If I were you, I would try those Pedilyte Popsicles. If they are not in the freezer section of the grocery store, they are unfrozen in the baby isle. DON"T GIVE HIM an adult electrolyte drink.

    Best of luck. Poor baby!!

You could also try something like Watermelon. He might be up for eating that. Our pediatrician recommends the juice from a can of peaches too. Supposed to be wonderful.

  4. Take him to the ER he may be dehydrated.

  5. Sorry, this sounds really concerning. please do take him to the ER right away. Do NOT wait until Monday. Try offering other types of clear fluids while waiting in the ER (sometimes they take forever) if he wouldn't take Pedialyte. You're doing the right thing, try to keep him hydrated. Monitor his temperature. If fever is over 102, Tylenol might not be sufficient. Try Motrin, you can even give both at the same time if needed. Sponge bath to keep him comfy. He'll be okay, take care of yourself though, try to stay cool. God Bless.

  6. If he isn't drinking take him to the hospital, kids can get dehydrated quickly and if the hospital think he could be and can't make him drink either he may need to be put on a drip just to help get something into him. Oh and a tip the hospital gave me was, you know those medicine syringes? Well use those to try and get bits of water at a time down him Good luck

  7. yes er is needed
