His fever is 99.0-100.2. We have been to the Doctor twice. They have checked his ears and checked him for strep. Everything was fine. The doctor said that it must be a virus. He has had loose stools, and vomited once about 2 days ago. Also the fever seems to come and go. My 3 year old daughter has had a fever for 3 days now, she has also been checked by the doctor. Do viruses usually cause a fever this long?

  1. honey welcome to having young kids, i cant take my kids to church even on sunday cause i have to keep them healthy ( keep them out of the nursery ) for our vacation next week

there are many virus going around

  2. The fever probably comes and goes because you are medicating him.  When it starts wearing off, the fever comes back.  I think 7 days is a long time for a fever.  But since he's been checked I'd give it another day or two.  If he's not better, take him back.

  3. My kids had this same thing.  We never figured out what it was and finally went away in about 7 days.  The most a virus will usually stick around is 10.  If it's not gone after that I would get another opion and push for test to be done.

  4. my son had something kinda like that a couple weeks ago he's 16 months.  He had a back tooth coming in.  They can cause low grade fevers that don't seem to want to break.  Try giving your son a cold wash cloth to chew on.  The tooth might also explain the vomiting, if it hurts bad enough that can cause him to want to vomit.  I'm not sure about the loose stools other than you might be giving him a little to much juice, but I'm not sure.  The tooth thing is just an idea, it is very possible that is what it is.

  5. Do you know if he is getting any teeth in?  When my son would get teeth in he would have the same symptoms.  Doctors usually don't worry about fevers when they are lower than 101.  If he seems fine though, just try to keep him hydrated.  For the loose stools...my doctors office always suggests the BRAT diet

    Plain

    Bananas

    Rice

    Applesauce

    Toast

Helps if something is irritating his tummy.

  6. Not usually, but it depends on the virus. If they drink A LOT of fluids, it should go away.

  7. it depends on the virus...it'll probly just go away with time

  8. I wouldnt think 7 days...but it depends on the virus. My 19 month old son just started running a temp of 102.1....needless to say, we're going to the doc tomorrow, cuz I cant get it below 101.

I think theres just something going around.
