Question:

My 2002 Neon is overheating. Help!

My 2002 Neon has been intermitently overheating. I had the thermostat replaced and it definitely looked like that was the problem. The old thermostat was coroded and falling to pieced. I made sure my coolant was up to par and nothing else seemed to be wrong. Now, a day later, it isn't quite overheating, but the temperature gauge seems to be all over the place and it never used to. I goes up pretty high to about two thirds and then will drop back down to normal again. But in the course of 7 miles it did this many times. It seems abnormal but I don't know if it means I need something else fixed or if the thermostat I have now just behaves that way.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

  1. you may have just gotten a bumb thermostat. or you may have some stuff floating around in the coolant blocking its flow when it gets to the thermostat. you could also have a bad temperature sensor.

  2. theres a coupe of things you may need to check on this one ,first check to see that he cooling fan is coming on like it should be and then you need to check the radiator on it,those was bad for the bottom of the radiator to get stopped up on them and when that happened to them they wouldnt let the coolant circulate real good throughout the radiator and that would cause the hand to rise some on it,make sure you also burped the system and got all the air from it,if you didnt it will run a little hotter than it should, its probably just minor glitch in it but these things need to be checked just to be sure they are right, other wise it will run a  little hotter than ussual, good luck on it.
