I will be taking a trip with it next week and am wondering if I just get it checked out before I leave.

  1. I really dont know wat u mean cause i had a 00 Grand Caravan but it broke down in the middle of the highway and never really learned every thing in the van so i cant help but it does not seem  rite

  2. Sounds like it could be your Idle air control module, i would get it checked prior to your trip its a pretty cheap fix

  3. id have the computer scanned on it that is little high for it to be idling at,this may be caused by a bad sensor or the cable may be sticking some on it,either way it might be something to have checked,i wouldn't want to start out on a trip kowing it has some kind of a problem with it,auto zone will scan it for free this way you,ll know if its a sensor or it may help tell you whats causing this too happen, good luck.

  4. We need more details as 1k could be normal.  What engine does your GC have and is the 1k idle speed with the engine cold or at full normal operating temp?  As an example my 1995 GC SE 3.3L idles at around 750 RPM when in park and at normal operating temp.  Also if the reading is from the stock tach in the Gage cluster be aware that it might not be completely accurate.  I say on a level surface shift from neutral to drive with your foot off the brake and see what happens.  If the trans engages smoothly and the van starts rolling forward gradually the idle is probably normal.  On the other hand if it clunks into gear and the van lurches forward suddenly the idle may be too high.  I also know that the computer should throw a code and turn on the MIL (check engine light) if it can't properly control the idle speed like it wants to.
