  1. Never let a alarm dealership install...they don't know what they are doing...now you have an issue.  Have the dealership repair the alarm...suck it up....sorry

  2. Why would your AIRBAG light be because you installed an alarm, that makes no sense. Sounds like they are on crack! Go to autozone and borrow their thing that you hook up to ur computer, look up the code, and then take the code to a mechanic

  3. Yes it does make since and I have seen it before and one of two things could have been done by the installer.

    1. They used a regular test list to probe for the power source as well as the constant source and this set off the light.

    2. This one sounds bad but I have seen it, they are using the power from the airbag or one of its power sources.

This is hard to believe but as I have stated I have seen this too many times and I tell my customers to take it back to the installer and have them check it for you and if they made the mistake, have them pay for the repairs.

  4. It isn't a check engine light with a code to be read by anyone, it is an airbag light, telling you there is a problem in the airbag circuit.

The person who installed the alarm for you is not being truthful.  It was fine, they installed the alarm, now you have the light.  Cause and effect, they did something wrong and they need to either fix it, or pay for it to be fixed.  Tell him just that, that you can have it fixed at the dealer and the starting price will be $200 and might go up from there, or he can fix it correctly by removing the alarm and giving you a full refund.  His choice.

  5. I use to be a Toyota Parts Counterman....

I have seen issues pop up like yours due to an aftermarket security system being installed.

Toyota's are very touchy regarding power sources and proper grounding.  I have seen people wire up a trailer light connection on a Tacoma and end up with a Check Engine light on.  Toyota sells a kit, and granted, it's not cheap, but it is designed to function with the system in the truck.  Everything... and I do mean EVERYTHING electrical passes through a computer on-board that truck.  If there is the tiniest fluctuation in current through that computer, it will show a fault code somewhere.

My suggestion is buck up and pay the dealership to find and repair the system in your truck and then take the invoice back to your alarm installer and demand payment.  If they are not going to stand behind their product and installation, then contact the State Attorney Generals office and file a complaint against the installer.

Toyota's accessories may be a bit more expensive to purchase outright, but most of them are a "plug and play" set up that are compatible with the on-board computers and will function correctly from day one.  If not, you have the warranty of the parts and labor from the dealership that installed it.  Sometimes getting a "deal", isn't getting a deal at all....

Good luck and I hope this helps....
