I have a 2007 Toyota Corolla that I purchased brand new from the dealership in June of 07 (17,000miles) and a few weeks ago I began to hear thumping sounds (usually just 1 or 2 thumps) when backing out of my driveway, or when i turn. I'm hearing the sound more often now and a little louder. What is that thump sound?

  1. Wow there could be alot of things.  First look for loose trim around the area of the noise.  It could be a fender, could be a bumper cover, or a splash guard (which is under the car).  Could be bad shock absorber to check this push down on the front of the car and listen if you can hear the sound.  If it happens mostly when you are turning it could be your are turning too hard and the tire is rubbing against your fender .  Umm thats what I can think of on the top of my head.

  2. Could be something as simple (and dangerous) as a loose wheel stud. It's under warranty, back to nice Mr Toyota my friend.

  3. well that could be a few things, my first guess cv boot is bad. Does it do it when you make a turn? If so,sounds like boot. But that is a guess. If it gets worse take it to shop, asap.

  4. GO back to the dealer, after all it is still under warranty!

  5. You should check the motor mounts , with the car running and hood open rev the engine and watch for movement, you may need to try reverse while holding the brake also good luck
