I recently bought a 2007 GSX-R 600 brand new 0 miles and have put about 150 miles on it in about a month. I live in the Coachella Valley which for those who are not familiar with this valley Palm Springs is a city with in this valley. So I ride it mostly every day with the average temp in the city being 112 feranheit. So I don't know if it would be normal for the temp to get that high on city streets?

  1. I would HAVE to guess that it is normal, since you don't include the figures in your question. Look at your owners manual.  If they don't tell you anything then they do not care.  Cars frequently exceed 240-250 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the RPM down until it is broken in, which looks like 3 more months.  It ought to run a bit cooler after break in. So we know average summer temps in the Coachella Valley are 112 degrees Fahrenheit. Shame about that motorcycle, huh?

Lets see if we can guess the temperature in his motor?

    250 degrees F - 280 degrees F?

  2. I do not know exactly where your bike is supposed to be but on a hot day in stop and go traffic my Hondas get up to 230.  I do not think the fan even goes on until they get about that hot.  I know that my first new bike got that hot on the way home from the dealer and I turned around at complained of a problem.  They told me it was normal and told me to only worry if the dummy light came on, which is when the bike is actually over heating.  The only time that light ever comes on is when I first turn the ignition on and that is only to show me that the light is still working.

Bikes get hot (230ish) in stop and go traffic, I am sure that is you got it out on an open road your temperature would drop to about 175 or so with the air going thru the radiator.  Don't spend too much time worrying about problems you don't actually have.  Sportbikes are actually very good machines and last a very long time when they are not too abused and get the regular maintenance done.  Youtube has a video of an older cbr600f4i turning 100,000 miles on the odometer so my guess is that if you take care of the bike it will take care of you.
