we havent got alot of money to blow on a new oven, as id have to use our credit card,, and i dont need new debts,,

is it worth fixing it?

  1. CHECK OUT TWO THINGS.  COST TO REPAIR AND COST TO REPLACE.  QUITE A BIT TO REPLACE MAYBE.  THERE IS NO STANDARD FOR WALL OVENS.  CAREFULLY MEASURE THE SIZE OF THE HOLE AND SHOP ON THE PHONE AND SEE IF YOU FIND ONE THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE CABINET WORK.  YOU CAN'T PICK OUT A NEW WALL OVEN 'TIL YOU MEASURE THAT OPENING.

IF YOU HAVEN'T WORN OUT OR ABUSED THE OLD OVEN AND THE REPAIRS AREN'T MORE THAN $250 OR SO I WOULD REPAIR IT.   IT DOES SOUND LIKE THE THERMOST IS STICKING OPEN.  SO IF YOU BUMP THE STAT k**b-DOES IT START HEATING AGAIN?

  2. I wouldnt be afraid to repair it but it is 20+ years. Had any other problems? Its possible this is/was your problem in the past but its maybe compound and you ahve more than 1 problem. The guy above is right it is costly to repair an old appliance (if you can still find the right parts and ecconomically)

I would opt to repair it if its commercial type oven. Other wise 6-900 dollars dosnt seem to be worth the repair cost of 3 to 400.

  3. Just add the repair cost with a little more. 20 years old might be time to replace it!

  4. Lucky you, wish ours would break, lol. Ours is also a wall oven, I reckon its as old as our house (21ish). It stops and starts working as it wishes, stupid thing.

I have been eyeing off new ones for around $1200 - 1500 bucks (thats with the seperate hotplates and overhead fans as well). Fitting it would be extra of course. I would say you would be better off replacing it, as the parts needed nowdays would probably cost a fortune and take a while to get in, and then most likely something else would then stop working.

The ones nowdays are fantastic! Self cleaning!!! Look great. Mine is sooooo 80's, the lovely brown colour (its a simpson), might have looked cool back then but fails miserably now.

We can swap if you want, mind you I suck at cooking whether the oven works or not.

  5. It probably isn't worth fixing Rockmum, you might have to just get another one :-(

  6. Try going to www.repairclinic.com for some help diagnosing your problem and to get prices for parts.  It's pretty old so they might not have the information, but worth a try.

  7. Sorry ROCKMUM!!!!

    It's time to go........

    OVEN!!!!  :(

  8. I am sorry to hear about it. As if having all of those children and an ant was not enough trouble.

Your hubby ought to be able to fix that with some help from the internet. It is probably just the burner and they are cheap and do not even require tools to change. Give me a name and a model number, and I will do a little research. Really it would make me feel good if I can help.

    Enjoyed hearing from you.

  9. These days it's better to replace than to repair. It will coct you as much if not more to get someone out there, e. tc. You can order one, if it's a special size, or go to a major appliance store. Plus they are a LOT more energy efficient that that one in there now.

    Replace, replace, replace.

They haven't gone up in price by much in the last 20 years. Most places now a days NEED your bussiness and will do a lot to get it. Price match with cost reduction. No interest.

The fan forced ( convection), will cost you a little more. You can gey one for as little as $600.

I don't have more specifics on install.

    Good Luck!!

  10. New is in order. even if you fix it you won't trust it. Its a problem that need new as a solution.

20 years is a lot of service. A small funeral is in order. To the dump, to the dump!!!
