  1. It means he's below the 3rd percentile, as in less then 3.  Basically he's in a very small group of small for age, and the majority of kids are larger then him - like my oldest is in the very small percentage at the other end of the graph.  He's so small the graph doesn't delineate what percentile he's in, it's not zero as their are only values between 0 and 100, not including 100 or 0.  As long as his pediatrician is happy, he must be okay.

  2. If you know he is under the 3rd percentile then that means he would be at 1-2 percent. When my son was born he was in the 95% range weighing in at 11 pounds. After he was 3 months old he started drastically dropping to the 5-10% range and that is where he has been ever since. He is now 7 yrs old..If your son is happy, active, eats well, socializing then do not worry. My niece just turned 2 and she doesnt talk yet either..Both my kids were nearly 3 before they could talk where someone else could understand them. Every child develops differently..

  3. My daughter was extremely small.  She didn't even get on the chart until she was almost three years old.  She didn't talk till she was 2 1/2, but signed extensively and understood everything.  She socialized very well also.  Now she is almost 4 and she is completely fine and caught up to her age group.  If your doctor isn't worried, then just relax and enjoy your kid.

  4. Someone has to be in that percentile and it happens to be him and alot of others.  Has the doctor showed any concerns or had tests?  Just love him and avoid anyone's remarks on size, it really doesn't make a kid.

  5. Then I would suggest you talk to your Dr. I am not sure what you expect people on yahoo answers to tell you. We are not going to be able to tell you anything.

  6. Sounds like he is just small. My daughter has been since she was born. Shes now 9 months and still wears 3 month clothing. She wasnt on the charts at all for a long time but as of last week, is in the 10 percentile. The doctors are not worried about her. They just say shes petite. If your doc isnt worried, I wouldnt be either. He may take a growth spurt and grow in no time. Good luck and dont pay any attention to what people say if it bothers you. Hes happy and healthy. Thats all that matters. If he continues not to talk, work with him and ask a doc what the best thing to do is. It may just be his thing. He could be more than capable but if hes figured out he doesnt have to talk to get what he wants, he may not.

  7. My daughter is the same way, she only says about 6-10 words but knows exactly what I am saying...if he is not talking by 2 then you have to talk to the doctor.

  8. Speak to dr about your concerns. He may be just absorbing knowledge. Try not talking to him for a few hours and see if he says anything. Maybe, by trying to encourage him to speak, you are being animated and entertaining.   Go see a doctor.

  9. My daughter is 27 months old and when people see her in the store they think she's 1. She's just small. Don't worry. Your son just may be small. He'll be ok. Don't worry. I thank God for having a small child. The smaller they are at two, the easier it is to snatch them up when they are getting into something they're not supposed to be in! :-D
