Question:

My 22 week old baby won't drink anything with his meals..?

My little boy will eat anything - and I mean anything, including apples and pears, but I can't get him to drink anything except milk. I've tried water - cold and warm, apple juice - cold and warm, apple and pear juice - cold and warm. Have tried using a spoon, a beaker, a sippy cup, a glass and a bottle, but he won't drink a single mouthful. As a last resort I'm thinking of making up a bottle of milk with only a fraction of the powder to see if he'll drink that. I've even tried wrapping tissue round the bottle so it looks like milk and he saw straight through it! Any ideas on what else I can try? Thanks!!

  1. my 8month old twins are the exact same and if i do manage to get them to take a little it makes them sick. i asked my health visitor and she said as long as they are eating fruit and veg in their diet it is fine as they will absorb fluid from the food. i was told not to try and force them to drink as they will eventually do it when they want to and i'm sure your son will to.

as for mixing only a fraction of powder milk with the water think that will make him sick i no on the back of powder milk it does say if you don't use the same amount of scoops as water it can make them sick  . hope this helps good luck.

  2. At 4 months, he is OK to have only milk.

The experts are saying not to feed the baby anything else but milk till his 6 months old. You offer him a spoon of soup and very light things but not a meal.

Try chamomile tea with honey. Just play/offer him the chamomile bottle between ..whatever you call meal.

Don't force him to drink during the "meal".

    He will enjoy it :)

  3. Are his poos pretty normal?  I wouldn't worry too much if they are.  Like someone else said, give him apple, pear, watermelon, melon.

    juicy fruits.

Keep offering the water and you may find that one day, he'll just take it!

DS refused water for ages and then all of a sudden, he's gulping it down like there's no tomorrow!  We use a sippy cup now.

  4. i not really sure if it will work on your baby but it works in some!!

try giving him water after you giving him milk!! its sounds easy but it works on some!!

and bydaway your kid is smart for he sure knows his stuff and somehow picky!! hehe

  5. trust me try purree fruit like apple watermelon

  6. My son would only drink milk too.  He wouldnt even try anything else. But he has started to become interested in whatever mommy is drinking. So Now little by little he wants mommies cup so I make sure That I put juice or water in my cup.

I wouldnt worry though it is a phase and he will eventually want to try the other stuff. But if he eats as good as you say then no worries.

  7. He is so young, he doesn't need extra fluids yet.  He is getting plenty of fluid in his milk.   When he is closer toward a year, you can introduce him to home-made popsicles or slushies made with fruit juice.

Please do remember that before age 1, juices must be diluted 50-50 with water, as the acids are too strong for digestive tracts and teeth.

  8. At this age I don't think juice is that important.  If he's getting enough formula/breastmilk I wouldn't make it an issue.  He'll come around.  If it really concerns you, talk to your pedi and he should be able to alleviate any fears you have.  If he's getting fruits and veggies in his food he doesn't HAVE to have juice.  My youngest never even had baby food until she was 10 months and she was always perfectly healthy.  I wouldn't worry about this at all.  Good luck :)
