Question:

My 26" Visio TV will not give 720p to my PS3. Please help!?

I recently purchased a PS3. I just connected it to a new 26" Visio TV. When I hit the info button on the TV remote, it only shows 480p resolution and not the 720p that the TV is supposed to show. I have changed the display settings on the PS3 to show 720, however, it then says "No Signal" until I switch i back to 480.

I imagine I have to change some setting on the TV so that it shows in 720, but despite my best efforts, I can not find this choice anywhere! I have them attached via component cables, and from all my research it doesn't sound like I need HDMI cables for 720. I am a pretty tech savvy person and this has just baffled me.

Thanks so much for your help!

  1. I had the same problem with my PS3.

Go to Wal-Mart and buy a $30 HDMI cable(don't waste money on an expensive one)

    This should do the trick.

  2. Due to agreements (pressure) from the entertainment industry any resolution higher than 480p on DVD players is typically limited to digital connections with HDCP only (DVI or HDMI).  Maybe that rule also applies to the PS3 and is why higher resolutions do not work on component (which is actually analog, not digital).

Try HDMI and see if that works.

PS: VGA can also play DVD from PC's at higher resolution, maybe because VGA is probably not easily directly recordable.  My laptop can up convert DVD to the full resolution of my 40" 1366x768 LCD.

  3. is your tv hd ready also have you tryed to connect is by a hdmi cable to get it too work as i dont think theres a setting to change it from 480-p to 720p it should do it on its own depending on the signal from your ps3 to your tv.
