My 2yr old son had dark green p**p, what does it mean?

I changed his pants and there was dark green p**p with the consistency of maybe oatmeal.

He had oatmeal with dried fruits and cinnamon and orange juice for breakfast. For lunch he had a small salami sandwich and milk. For dinner he had chicken and brown/white rice combo.

Should I be worried?

  1. Anything purple can cause green p**p. Something like a purple gatorade, koolade, grape juice, purple candy. It must be something in the dye. I doubt it is anything to stress over. As long as he's having regular bm's.

  2. yes you should be worried hes going to die very soon.

  3. No.. I get that sometimes

  4. XP

  5. childrens p**p is the color of what they eat. as long as it is not watery dont worry.

  6. ewww.

  7. it means he ate something green, dont be alarmed

  8. nah, i've heard of it happening loads of times, especially with  babies and toddler

  9. Not really. it takes 24 hours to clean out his system. So think of what he ate yesterday afternoon. Bile ( a component in digestion) is naturally green also. As long as there was no blood in it he should be fine. If he get diarrhea for more than 24 hours youshould see a dr. Your son can become dehydrated fast.

  10. It usually means a lot of iron in your system. No I don't think it's anything to worry about but if it continues you may want to contact your doctor.

  11. isn't it still considered healthy. sorry, if i'm not much of help here. hope there's nothing wrong with your son's health.. :)

  12. I've seen this before.  It may last for a couple of poops.  Unless it is diarrhea, I wouldn't worry.  He seems to have a good appetite, right?  And no complaints of a stomach ache, so he should be fine.  I don't remember what my son ate that caused that to happen a few times, but it's never been a problem.  If he's having any symptoms of being ill, then take him to the doc.  But he should be fine.

  13. Don't stress! It's no big deal if it happens once. I think it might be the salami sandwich, or it was a combination of foods that made him have dark green p**p. Green p**p is occasionally fine. Adults may even have green p**p, because of their diet. I had green p**p a couple of times in my life, but keep close watch on what he eats, and if he has dark green p**p simultaneously for about a week or more, then contact his doctor.

  14. no everybody gets tat once i did wen i drinked alot of green gatorade

  15. your son ate a leprechaun...so much for that pot of gold

  16. Healthy people can have green p**p if they eat a diet rich in leafy green vegetables, or if they consume large quantities of food coloring (in ice cream, cake frosting etc.).

Green p**p can also be caused by excess iron in the diet, from dietary supplements, for example. If the body does not absorb all the iron consumed, the iron may stain the p**p green, the color of iron (II) salts. Ordinarily, the green color may be masked by the normal brown p**p color, but if digestion is thrown off by illness so that bilirubin is less concentrated in the intestine, the green color may become apparent. This can happen when a person is afflicted with diarrhea.

Green p**p in SICK BABIES may come from iron in baby formula not being properly absorbed, or by green pigments in bile salts (again, green from iron). So you may have to check with the doctor to take blood samples to test for iron.  But I suspect he might be fine, there is nothing wrong with being too carefull so go ahead and have him checked.

  17. Keep him on the toilet, and keep his food simple for the next few days, and if there's any vomit with in that time, then yes, be worried. Other wise, his stomach just didn't like the mixture.
