My 3 1/2 year old boy is peeing in his room?

I have been smelling pee in my 3 1/2 year old boys room and couldn't figure out where it was coming from. He is fully potty trained and never has accidents, but I started noticing the pee smell about one month ago and wanted to find out how it was getting there. One day, I went into his room to see what he was up to and found him squatting down with his pants to his feet and squirting pee all over the carpet, wall, and toys. I was so upset and horrified that I just stood there and he got nervous and said he would clean it up. So, the next day, I got a carpet shampooer and cleaned the carpet and all of his toys. He even watched me! Then, today, I caught him with pee on his pants and a completely soaked bed. We took all of his toys away from him and I don't know how long they should be taken away. I don't even know if this will even phase him any to not pee in his room again. If you have any suggestions on what we should do, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

  1. I would suggest taking him to the doctor just to rule out anything.  Who knows, he could have a urinary tract infection and not know how to deal with it.

  2. LOL this is more than likely  not a medical thing he knows where the potty is he is not forgetting hes playing . my friends kid would pee in the trash can next to the toliet for a month took his mother over a week to find out why the pee smell was so strong. the boy is acting out if he didnt cry when you took away his toys he wont care that they are gone. but if he did four days should effect him at three and a half he should know what happens to things when you throw  them away so start tossing toys if a few days without his toys dosnt effect him. its definately a boy thing but if you think he just likes playing with his pee(a serious posibility) set some chirrioes in the toilet and tell him to try and hit those, if he wants to play do it in there plus it might help his aim

  3. Guess what it's a boy thing.....lol. My nephew did it at about 4 years old, he's now six. my oldest son who's almost 5 pulled that stunt with me too when he had just turned 4 or a little before and he never knew about what his cousin had done.  he wanted to make sure he didn't get any ideas.....lol. he apparantly came up with it on his own. so it's at that age where they pull this little stunt. I'm not going to lie at all. we spanked him every time, made him help scrub the carpet and the toys. we took away his priviledges first when none of that worked that's when we spanked. Same as my brother-in-law and sister-in-law had to do too.

He stopped once he realized peeing in his room meant a pop on the butt and cleaning it. (especially bad considering he shared a room with his brother)

I may get bashed for spanking my son and making him help clean it up BUT you know what it's the only thing that worked especially consdering the fact we have rarely ever spanked our children unless it was something that had to do with their safety

  4. put a tree in the corner so he pees on that.

  5. wow... thats a pretty unusual phase ...and phase it is, you're just going to have to figure out how to convince him that this isn't acceptable...

I don't know that punishment is going to be the best solution...

and I also don't know what you should do either...

    Wow..this is a good one...

I think my daddy would have taken me out back and peed on me....LOL

  6. Tell your boy to use the toilet or Mr. Snuggles will die.

  7. It is really normal for kids who have been potty trained to have accidents or go back to peeing in their pants when they are stressed or there is a change.  Check with your boy's doctor to make sure he doesn't have a bladder infection or other medical reason for the accidents.  Please stop punishing him, it will only make it worse.  Have him help you clean it up and put the toys away so they don't get peed on but let him play with them during the day.  3 1/2 is early to be completely potty trained and never have another accident.  Go easy on him, I promise, he won't pee on his PS3 (or whatever) when he is 15.
