MY SON TURNED 3 ON MARCH 19TH AND HAS NEVER USED THE POTTY. I JUST HAD A NEW BABY ON APRIL 10 BUT HE HAS ADJUSTED WELL WITH THE BABY. SO I FIGURED I WOULD START TOILET TRAINING. I TRIED LEAVING HIM IN HIS DIRTY DIAPERS. BUT IT DOESNT BOTHER HIM. EVERY TIME I SIT HIM ON THE TOILET HE SCREAMS AND CRIES. I AM TRYING A POTTY CHAIR THAT SITS ON THE FLOOR NEXT. RIGHT NOW I HAVE ONE THAT FITS ON THE RIM OF HIS BIG POTTY. LAST WEEK WE SAT ON THE TOILET FOR 45 MINUTES BEFORE HE EVEN PEEED AT ALL. AND WHEN HE FINALLY LET IT OUT HE SCREAMED AGAIN. I NEED HELP. AND HIS SPEECH IS A LITTLE DELAYED. SO TALKING TO HIM IS NOT WORKING OUT B/C I DONT UNDERSTAND HIM. BUT HE CAN SAY PEE PEE AND POO POO VERY WELL. ANY IDEAS.?

  1. try real underwear. The diapers wick away the wetness and it's not as uncomfortable. When my daughter was one we started potty training her. In about a month she was totally potty trained, but when she started daycare she went back to dirtying herself. So I just started putting her in those underwear that have a padded crotch(so it wouldn't leak on to the floor) And in a couple months she started pottying. Its messy at first but its worth it. Also, I put a potty in the room she spent the most time in so it wouldnt take much effort to actually get on the potty. I would just let him run around in undies and a shirt so he can easily undress himself and put a potty close to him and totally make a big deal every time he does go. I even gave my daughter money when she went  a few times. Bribery really works for some kids lol

  2. He obviously isn't ready to be potty trained.

  3. ~Bribe him with treats!  If he pee's he get 1 treat, if he poops give him several!

Try setting up a movie on a portable dvd player for him.

  4. Try M&Ms.  Get a gum ball machine.  Give him money to get M&Ms out of it every time he even sits on the potty.  Give him extra if he goes.  Once he shows interest and goes by his own asking, put him in big boy pants and put the diapers away (except for night time).  Expect accidents, but that's what you have to do.

  5. First get the cereal fruit loops and put some

in his potty. Then tell him the game is he pee's

and trys to sink the fruit loops. Also take him to

the store and buy him big boy underwares. Let

him know he is going to ware big boy underwares like

his daddys. Keep the paper on at night and use the

underware only during the day. Intill he masters the

day time potty then you cn try to remove papers.

  6. I'm having trouble with my 2.5 year old myself. He will sit there and not go. I have had several people tell me to try potty training DVD's and the like, but I have yet to find something that works for him. Good luck. I hope you find something that works for him soon.

  7. Take it slow and dont try to push him.  Some kids just need alittle more time than other, and dont worry about the people who say "Oh, my kid was potty trained in one day."  I have heard that boys are alot harder to potty train than girls.  With my daughter I started out by buying her a couple "potty training dvds" like Elmo goes potty.  When she goes potty she gets to put a sticker on her "potty chart" and gets a sucker.  Still, with that it took a few months.  I have read that most kids take about 8 months to become potty trained.  So just try to talk to him about it without hounding him and he will be there in no time, im sure.  Good luck!!

  8. I think you should back off, and wait awhile longer.

It doesn't sound like he's willing.  If you keep fighting, it might make it worse!

    Good Luck ~

  9. Toilet Training should be a fun and exciting experience for both you and your child. Remember, your child should feel in control of the process, not you. Take a slow, casual, matter-of-fact approach, and make it fun!

Always encourage and praise your child.

Never pressure or punish your child for unsuccessful attempts at using the potty.

Start by reading potty training books to your child Elmo and others have books out about how much fun it is to use a potty. Once your child is ready for potty training; you can go to the store and purchase training pants - if your child keeps wearing nappies - which he has been used to just going in then he will continue to do it.

Let your child pick out his/her favorite training pants (Rugrats,Batman,Wiggles etc.). Cotton training pants will let your child feel the wetness and will train faster.

Put the potty in a room where your child plays most often. The kitchen is a good place, so you can supervise. It will also encourage your child to use it more often if it is in plain view. Let your child play with it so he/she will get accustomed to it. Then show your child how it works even if you have to use it yourself.

You can also put Potty Charts on the refrigerator. Explain to your child that each time he successfully uses the potty, he will get a sticker for his chart (use praise too, of course). This will be an incentive to get your child to start using the potty-chair.

Even though your child is not speaking that well (my little boy is 3 soon and also isn't) he can understand everything you say.

The most important thing is to make a really really big deal when it does happen.  We used to do a dance - running around the house and singing "Jake used the potty yea!!!"

Good Luck - I hoped that helped!
